Yea the early rack could make the difference. Did you need die grind the intake and exhaust manifold for them to fit nicely together?

Yes I did.  Had to grind a bit off the intake manifold.

Every time you add pictures of your Mk1, I go for a little trawl of the local classifieds to see if there are any clean 3 doors up for sale!
