Almost thinking about getting another A4 for the wife. To recap, had a 1996 TQ sedan, and  2000 and 2002 TQ Avants. Then had a rest for a few years, but bought an A4 DTM around 2 years ago......she's a confirmed manual transmission driver.

The DTM got driven for about 2 weeks then rejected ....didn't like the sports seats, (looking over her shoulder and getting in and out of them was a hassle) and some other grizzles. So parked it up for almost a year in the hope she'd change her mind but she didn't so it got sold around a year ago.

Now she's muttering about us looking for another A4. I suspect what would make her happy is a  B8 3.2 litre quattro petrol manual, but a 2.0  TQ might just do. They aren't available as NZ new cars, and it seems that 3 litre petrols aren't in any tranny? ( S4's aside)

I guess options would be to consider imports from Asia, UK, (or maybe even Oz for a manual 2.0l TQ manual?).

I'd be interested in any suggestions etc. Anyone even contempleted importing for OZ? Recent fx shift in our favour may mitigate the pain of that just a little?

And with the UK option,  I guess there will be issues with any satnav, radio, and the speedo display?

Cheers in advance.

Cars in Australia are heinously expensive...

Bump....and more questions....

No progress on this issue. Pretty much got to the point where we have decided we'd like a B8 manual transmission quattro S-Line sedan in either 3.2 petrol, or 2.0TFSI , and not that fussed where it comes from. So I guess the options are Aus, ( most expensive!!)  UK or maybe the odd one from Japan?

I assume a car from Oz would be almost identical in spec to a NZ one, so I wouldn't have to worry about a band expander for the radio, the sat nav should/could work? But what about cars from the UIK and Japan? What things don't work here, and/or are very expensive to get to work like a NZ new one?

Thanks in anticipation

Well we have pretty much run the white flag up on the manual tranny option. Just too hard, really.

So options now are NZ new B8 3.0TDI or 2.0 petrol TFSI, quattro's of course. The car is actually for the wife's daily drive, and will do only around 10K km/annum, with the odd trip away when I might get to drive it!

So what are the informed opinions as to which one we should get? Is the DSG in the 2.0TFSI that much better than the TDI's Tip? Does it matter?

Cheers

Get the 3.0 TDI. Fast, fuel efficient (save time filling up all the time) and reported as a good fun handling car. Not far off the S4 pace.

Our old neighbours in town (before we moved) bought a B8 3.0 TDI Avant and were blown away at how good it was. Got brand new (or ex demo?) from Giltraps. Previously they had a 3 series BMW sedan. The only B8 I've driven is the S4 so I can't really comment further.

I assume that the front suspension is different (i.e. spring rates) from the 2.0 TFSI to handle the additional weight of the 3.0 TDI? Any reported issue around it being 'nose heavy'?

Thanks for the input, guys.

What year did the 3.0 TDI switch from a Tip transmission to a DSG?
