Sounds weird I know, but I had a dream the other night that I was driving my old car - 306xsi - so took it for a drive the next day and loved it!

I'm really thinking about selling up and buying another 306xsi. What am I thinking? Who knows - just really enjoyed my old manual rather than an auto.

Why not buy a manual vr6 then? Well the pug handled like it was on rails - however I'm not sure if the pug will be as reliable as the VW.

What to do what to do!

but I enjoyed driving it more than my vr6. And really got the vr6 for the power and auto cause my gf couldnt drive manual. I'm forcing her to learn though!

My mum has a 98 306, not a xsi but it does look rather nice, pity about the 1.3 under the bonnet!

Go one better - If you want the BEST driving non turbo hot hatch from the last 10 years
buy a 306 Gti 6. IMHO.

167BHP. Only comes in 3dr. 2L 6speed.

The Pug would be my pick - no turbo lag and those cars corners like they're on rails

Well you have just spent a bit on getting your wheels so you should enjoy them.
Buy a manual VR6 and a lowering kit and feel good in the fact that the car isnt going to fall to bits every time you close the door!

yeah I know I bought some wheels etc but I can sell them with the car and not lose out any which is cool. I want to spend around 10k and figure with that I could get close to a 1998 xsi which I'm sure wouldn't have the problems my 1994 xsi had. Well has only really had problems since selling it to my brother in-law. He forced me into it though!

You think i could get a manual vr6 for 10k? Cause I'm willing to test drive one to see how it compares to an xsi.

Anyone strongly for or against an xsi - if so why?

OOOO

A 1994 XSi is a quicker and more fun car than a 1998 IMO.  The later car having all the bells and whistles which adds too much weight.  For 10k there must be a nice S16 model around.

the pain in the ass is the fact that there is no real pug club online in new zealand to ask questions. Pug's have had a pretty rotten history with reliability and things falling about though huh - myth or fact you think?

Would it be fair to suggest that a latter modle xsi will more reliable than a 1994 model?

Blake

certainly a six speed would be nice - out of my range however.

Bsting can you perhaps answer this for me? "the pain in the ass is the fact that there is no real pug club online in new zealand to ask questions. Pug's have had a pretty rotten history with reliability and things falling about though huh - myth or fact you think?

Realistically I would be looking at around 10k for a 97-98 xsi. What ya think?

Vag made these which are good & in the mould of what a Gti should be - IMHO
Lupo Gti ( not sold here )
Polo Gti ( sold here but only in 5dr )
Cupra R ( not sold here )

306 Gti 6 for $17k ? what else is there for $$$ ?

Pug will get lighter over time as it falls apart tho.
But cornering one in 2nd hard is just superb. 8)

Blake

generally though - would you suggest a late model 306 would last better than say a 1994?

taupoq

I too like the handling of a Pug but have seen too many mates in the UK crash at low speeds and seen the damage. Vag, from my experience, will handle a knock a lot better.

bsting

I dont know that much about them really - comes down to previous owner
ie Garaged ? FSH ? 306 GTi 6 extra 7 - 8k tho
for rapid non turbo car & nicer seats/uprated shocks.
