OOOO

Not experienced Noel but IMO would be cheaper car to keep running than Euro and a good way to get straight into the targa scene now rather than source a vehicle then   having to set it up.

I have no exp but love those cars! Has a nice solid, reliable engine what should just keep going.

Take of those stickers and you'd have a awesome track/targa weapon!

Cheap engines, RWD, easy to work on, parts evrywhere for them, just check out toyspeed.org.nz

Could even go for a Sliver or Black Top 4AGE if the Supercharger isnt your thing.

And its also a modern classic

Oh man - what an easy entree to the Targa scene.

If as described it looks the business. RWD would be my first pick for a fun Targa car - tail out thrills galore!

Am I tempted??

Now how do I get around el managero domestica??

Cheers

Hey Beeker, go stick your RS4 in Targa - now that's a mean machine. The only one to be entered in a Targa was in the Targa Bambina 3 years ago.

The guy wrote it off early in the event - apparently never driven in rally before, spent >200Gs on it to around 500HP and couldn't take corner at full tiilt on wrong cornering line and drove into a tree writing it off.  More money than sense.

I've seen the piccys and it wasn't nice. The black marks on the road was the giveaway for the wrong line being taken.

Go on I dare ya ;D

Cheers

So what do you guys think this is worth ?

if as stated

He's done the work himself apparently, but rates his own work pretty highly (TBC).

You would have to go and have a good look at the work he has done.

Another option is to build a car you like and know it inside out from the start.
You could as an example build a Mk1 or a Mk2 GTI Targa/Classic racer for about 10K all up.

I can't comment on its suitability, but I do suspect that you'll see pigs fly before you could significantly modify a car then sell it and get your money back. The adverts in the various publications are always full of things like "......spent $20K, offers over $8K considered....." Same thing goes for retsoring an old car...........so that tells me you're nearly always bettter off buying one thats already had the money spent on it......the trick is to make sure its a good one!!!

Well we have built my brothers MK1 GTi (very fast little car) for less than 10K.
It can be done, and if you do it yourself you know the car inside out and know that everything you have done is new or "fresh".

It would be cheaper to do to a Jap car as well.
A mate of ours brought a 1985 FXGT Toyota (Reg and WOF) with blown engine for $50, then payed another $150 for another 4AGE to put in it. This car is being turned into a trackday car which will turn out very cheap car.

I agree, doing your own has benfits. But i dont have the time, and if i paid someone else to do it, the Mk1 would cost $25k!

I wonder if drifters would be after this and push the price up? The AE86 is THE drift car AFAIK.

What Targa class do you want to run Beeker?
Is winning your class high on your list or are you just in it for the fun?

I noticed there are 2 AE86's in the NZ Targa at the moment. One has a Lexus V8 conversion!!. Would be some good competition. 1uzfe vs 4agze!!!
