Currently running Goodyear GS1D3's on S3. Great tyres as per the reviews and much better than Bridgestone RE040's iriginally fitted. However I have now blown/blistered out the side 2 tyres out of 6 purchased due to the soft sidewalls - so the real cost is $375 per tyre not $250.

I am seriously considering going to Dunlop Sportmaxx. Does anyone have a copy of the (Australian) Motor magazine review from a few months ago ?

I see that Toyo have a new tyre out above the T1R, it might be worth looking into?

Guys...
please wait 1 week and I should have an AWESOME deal on tyres.

I have the sportmaxx tyres. Rather loud but good grip in the wet and dry. They squeal before they let go. ::)

What re you running your Sportmaxx' on ? Any issues other than noise ?

Trofeo

I changed from pzeros to GSD3s some 15Ks ago and on the whole am very impressed. Yes they do have soft sidewalls (critical to check your pressures regularly - which reminds me..), and perhaps the turn in isn't that great, but man do they stick!
they are outstanding value too as they wear really well too. I paid $900 for the set.

I'm interested to hear you've had a couple fail on you.. are they prone to getting up close and personal with kerbs  ;)   otherwise it sounds a bit scary.

Both curbs but very light - one while parking at about 1 mph - overseas threads indicate that they blister easily - known problem. Supposedly a big issue ovseas on Golf R32's.

I run 18" GSD3s on my Golf. Haven't had any problems wif them to date and they seem excellent as far as grip is concerned.

BS A4. 32psi all round. Initially i didnt like them after swapping over from pirellis that had perished sidewalls.
Have grown to accept them. A little bit of curbage doesnt hurt them ::). The noise gets irritating on long drives on rough roads. (ie all of nz).

i run my toyos up at 36 psi in the fron & 38 in the bum

i would need ear muffs at those pressures.

My last choice came down to the GSD3's & Pirelli PZeroNero
Chose the Perilli, as like the bite...

Others I know have GSD3's, & say they are awesome, & great in the wet..
For price, I'd go the GSD3's, ring around...

Others I know have had Toyo T1R's sidewalls rip/burst on curbs, they do seem to have a wider sidewall

Toyo T1Rs are good tyres, shame the sidewalls are not as stiff as they could be.
Like michelins :)

i had a pair of different tyres on my s4 front and back, gsd3's at the front and dunlop direzza d101's (i think) on the back.
they were fine, but as the fronts wore down i noticed that my ESP light used to come on quite a bit more when giving it stink.
now i've got michelin pilot preceda's and they seem good. wet and dry traction is better.
pushed it out of a tight corner in the rain to test traction and got into a neutral 4 wheel drift for only a moment then took off. i'm no race driver though so i haven't really taken them to their limits.
for everyday they're good and don't seem to be wearing too quickly. bit pricey, but i felt like treating the s4 to some nice shoes.

Anyone got these?
Ventus R-S2 Z212
I have those on the S2. IMHO the compound is too hard: slide a lot if not warmed up, and dangerous in the wet. They do seem to come right when hot and don't fall apart like 'street' tryes on the track.

May be OK if you want a budget track tyre for dry days but I won't use them again.
