Discovered a couple of simple things that improve the S2 performance, particularly in hot weather:
Try removing driver side front light: better induction air flow.
Also remove front bumper: better cooling to intercooler.
Finally: be sure to replace the intercooler to crossmember O-ring with something like the silicone hose below (essential 'upgrade', described here: http://www.s2forum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=193&page=1&pp=15):
Tried those three things while bumper being repaired: good performance, but not particularly pretty/legal.

No, but now that you mention it I should have!
It was really hard to get the top of the hose on to the cross pipe. I ended up cutting the hose a bit too short to make it fit: hope the clip holds!
My result is pretty much like the photo above (from S2Forum):? the top clip doesn't really have enough hose to clamp properly.

here's someone in Sweden who has taken the induction mod to its logical conclusion:

but he may have got a bit carried away with this wastegate vent (I guess that's what it is):

On second look that may be the exhaust exist in front of the rear wheel.

Wasn't that a fast-n-furious style silencer hanging at a boy racer angle I saw on your Jetta?   ;D

Seriously, the air flow around the headlight to the airbox is pretty restrictive on the S2. Anyway, I won't be driving around without the front bumper until I chrome the intercooler

Agree - air intake ventilation around the front headlight is crape

Doug had a good idea with this

http://www.s2forum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=731&page=2&pp=15&highlight=oil+cooler

mod to the oil cooler ducting with some pipe going up to feed the airbox or filter. A bit more legal! I have done the same thing but my plastic chopping and glueing handywork is not as good as Dougs :)

As for the wastegate dump ipe , are the roadworthy/emission control police in NZ as strict as they are in Australia bout that sort of thing? I am trying to talk my exhaust guy into doing me a seperate wastegate pipe venting to atmospher with no cats/silencers
