A3 8P Brake upgrade

Has anyone had any experience/know what's involved in upgrading A3 brakes to an S3 set?
After its remap, it definitely could do with some more braking power and from some research on Audi-Sport.net it appears that it would be a straight swap.

Carriers, rotors and calipers are whats needed. Was looking at doing it to my A3 8P2 TDI also, priced up using 2nd Mk5 GTI gear and it wanst worth the money (unless you find a dirt cheap setup).

you also require the specific brake hose as well.

Expect to buy kit overseas but will still be around $1200-1500NZ once landed with MAF, customs and GST fees.
Thats second hand as well.

Try doing a pad upgrade with something like Hawk HPS. Replace rotors and lines (with stainless) if you feel like it at the same time.
You may well be happy with the performance for a road car after that.

S3/R32 Brakes add quite a bit to the unsprung weight as well. You will likely notice that in a negative way.

I'm fairly sure I put upgraded pads on it all round when they were last changed. This was fairly recently (maybe the last 15000 miles).
The additional unsprung weight is a very good point which I completely failed to take into account. Thanks for the insight

Lots of people overlook unsprung weight when contemplating big brakes.



Also overlooked are tyres.

Those big black donuts play a major part in brake performance.

What tyres are you running ?
