Did you know that the B2 (5 Cyl) passat was made under license in Japan too?  Nissan did it.
(Nissan Satana - M30)

So is Nissan's, skyline and cefiro (bigger car) successes all thanks to Audi's engines?  >:D

VW made the Skyline! er..  :P

Seriously now though.. would the long bonnet, 1 + 1, more than 4 cylinders etc have contributed at all
to Nissan's further thinking?

Far from it mate, the Skyline had a long and proud history long before the B2.

If anything, the six cylinder engines had some Mercedes influence.

From Wikipedia: Nissan L Engine (take from it what you will) "The design is often incorrectly attributed to Mercedes-Benz. In 1966 Prince Motor Company merged with Nissan. At the time of the merger, Prince was licensed to produce copies of the four- and six-cylinder engines. Prince Motor Company later refined the design such that it no longer needed licensing. The engine still resembles a Mercedes in many ways, particularly the valve train."

The later RB engines that the later Skylines (and some Holdens) and even later VQ engines show no outside influence.

As for the B2, I has a very basic carb fed 5-pot wagon in SA before coming here, only to buy a K-jet fed, velour seated, Nissan built Santana on arrival. A marked improvement.
