Hey guys,

I have recently bought a 1.6 Polo with 106,000 on the clock.
Every morning, including when I picked it up, the car takes a good 20 seconds before it will fire. It is then fine for the rest of the day and seems perfect until the next morning. My first thought was the battery, after replacing this, same problem.

From searching different forums I believe it could be the temp sensor however the fact that the temp gauge seems to be perfect throughout the day makes me think otherwise.

Any ideas?

Probably is the temp sensor, just because the gauge seems to work ok doesn't mean its not it. Just about to do mine in my Mk2 Golf, but I have the opposite problem- starts fine but gauge moves about randomly regardless of actual engine temperature! I had the issue you describe in my last Mk2 and replacing blue temp sensor fixed it. Pretty sure its the same in a 6N as I had one of those too with the same starting issue, got rid of the car before I got around to fixing it, so couldn't say for certain though.

From what I have read on other forums it doesn't seem too likely but I'm going to try it anyway.
It does seem to be getting worse, a good 30 seconds of cranking this morning at least but then perfect for the rest of the day, weird.
