I called in to drop the rear windows off. Grabbed a few pics

They pointed out that the majority of the rust is towards the rear where previous repairs have been done.
Then again maybe it was half under a carport or something for a while.
They are still assuring me it will be with me by Christmas.

A bit scary seeing all that rust. Still, once it's done it's done and should be all good for many years.

This is typical for 'repairs'
My parents had their car repaired after accident damage and later, that was where the rust appeared.
I guess it depends on the  shop doing the work but is not uncommmon from what I have observed

Wow, just been quoted $200+GST per wheel for refurb, which makes me start to think about aftermarket wheels.

where from? I got a quote for a set of curbed 17" GTI wheels and it was $80 per wheel incl painting in gloss black.

That was Advanced Wheel Repairs, who used to be around the $80 mark. Who did you use?

Yes I remember I asked you about them and they quoted me roughly the same per wheel for the same job.

I used a panel beater in Petone, can't remember the company name now but the guy's name is Dave and his number's 566 4816. I haven't done the job, but they did the gloss black paint on my other set of rims and it was $50 per wheel incl sanding down and prep but no repair required. He said factor in another $30-40 per wheel if sanding/filling was needed.

Message Tim as well, he had a set of 19" BBS fixed and powdercoated for less money than your quote at another place in Seaview.

I'd also take them to an engineer to spin them up, make sure they are straight etc. They can also fix any curbing properly rather than just bog and sand...

Exactly. They're getting some serious work done now. If it's not done by Christmas I'll be disappointed but I won't rush them.

Agree with you there...  To bog and sand is an $80 repair in the hands of the shop apprentice. A reputable shop will avoid this work but out source it to a wheel refurbisher.

I used Arrows wheels in Auckland for two sets of quattro wheels. They acid strip, if necessary weld, machine then paint to the correct code as in Zermatt silver LY7Y.  Returned like new. Was a shame to fit them.!

They quoted me the same when I spoke to them a while back (I went in thinking your 80$).

Not sure if that helps, but they are consistent .

:)

I ended up getting the paint shop that did the whole car to do them at around the same price (maybe slightly cheaper but it was done at the same time as the re-spray).

True. But I do want a working stereo eventually and now's the time to install them and get the wiring in place.

One week until "deadline" :)

Okay the deadline is no more. They're started on the rusty A pillar and it's apparently a mess. so it will not be done by next week. They're going to send pics.
