New pedal rubbers :)

I replaced mine 3 years ago, but only clutch and brake. Accelerator is bare.

Shipping from UK is outrageous.
Shipping from Germany is cheap as chips.
Absolutely no idea why the difference......

I use my NZ Post YouShop account to ship from the UK. It's much more affordable than what the Brits are asking for postage

Fixed a little problem I had.

Hey Rod here is a suggestion for you???The most cost effective performance/handling improvement you can add to any ur quattro is a left foot brace on the transmission tunnel next to the clutch pedal.
This is essential when the quattro is equipped with ?slippery? leather seats as your is.
I made mine of folded aluminium and used 6mm cap screws to attach to 6mm ?nutserts? fitted to the transmission tunnel
I will post some images for you in next few days

I'd appreciate that, thanks.

New pedal rubbers fitted. The accelerator one doesn't fit, ah well.

Otherwise I've mostly been trying to loosen rusty nuts, with varying success.

That's not right!!

Front rollbar bushes, I have new ones :)

Haven't got the nuts loosened at this end. So much rust!

Plan is now to strip everything I can from suspension and running gear, assess what I need, buy parts gradually and re-assemble.

Would appear your up for engine mounts here. The offside mount over time gets cooked due to proximity of turbo and exhaust down pipe causing the mount to collapse.  As a result the engine drops and the down pipe generally comes to rest on the front subframe.

I've already bought new engine mounts, subframe bushes, front rollbar bushes, wishbone bushes, strut top mounts, rear diff mount.
Need to check gearbox mounts, though I might as well just replace them with everything else I'm doing.
Everything's so corroded, I need to suss out what to keep and what to replace. And what I can replace!
Got one strut out at last!

Rear struts are ready to come out but the shafts are rusted into the hubs I think. They're not budging anyway. The fronts came loose with a quick tap. Rears not so much!

The exhaust bolts will need cutting off I think. And I'm buggered if I can get the driver side steering rod ball joint to split.
I haven't tried heating anything yet, though. I'm doing this in 30-60 minute chunks when I can sneak down to the garage :D

Some more rusty things.

Old (right) vs. new

Driver side CV joints..

I'm not a fan of these things!

So yeah the parts list is growing.
I need to buy some more stands to hold up the gearbox while I remove the subframe. The subframe is in a bit of a state, dented and rusty and filthy. Once that's off I can get a better look at the engine mounts and exhaust/downpipe, none of which look very convincing.
I think the GT subframe was in better condition but I won't know until I compare them whether they're the same part.

Almost all of the the brake lines look pretty corroded. I hope they are possible to sort out without removing the engine!!

I was looking at these last night...

Probably not a good idea, or likely not legal in NZ but they do look pretty.

A bit more deconstruction.

Looks like the shocks are toast. Push them right in and they don't pop out again. Will it ever end?
Anyone have the special tool to remove them?

Aren't you glad you're going the extra mile?
100% the right thing to do looking at that lot and I'd do the wheel bearings while there.

Yep I am. I started this hoping it would be a relatively cheap job to get the car on the road.

Well originally I hoped to spend $15k and current estimate is now about 36, probably more. And I haven't really touched the engine.

the shocks were tired when I had her and would bottom out when you hit a pot hole etc.
Always wondered why I wasn't allowed to do a AA inspection on her prior to me buying.... now I know

Keep on going Rob, your doing a great job

Thanks. Looks like a set of Konis will be about $1500 landed from the place in Leeds, UK. Seems pretty reasonable to me.
Just need to hang on until the wife starts back at work in Feb.
