Hey Rob that battery cable looks better. There should be a plastic lip at the bottom of the battery and hopefully a M8 threaded hole in the bottom of the battery box. Most euro's have a plate and bolt to hold the battery down.

There's nothing to fasten a battery holder on to, for some reason. Might get the body shop to weld on some tags when it's there for that rust repair on the sill.

On my way out to get the rusty sill checked out.

80's goodness

So the speedo repair didn't work, read zero the whole time. Need to investigate that more.
I've booked the car in for rust repair soon, plus a wheel alignment and re-bleed of the brakes this Saturday. The brakes are really spongy and I've bled them twice. WIll get a pro to do them :D

There seems to be an issue with idling once warmed up, revs drop way down and the car stalls.

Other than that it feels so good to drive it! It makes an amazing noise, steering feels good, it makes me grin :D

On a GT coupe I had I lay on the driveway a whole afternoon, trying to bleed the damn things brakes every which way with so little success I was just about sobbing with the frustration of it in the end. I had never encountered such a vitriole-and-cuss-inducing brake job in my life, and haven't experienced one since. It was a wheel cylinder which I think (from a memory tainted with hate and the red mist of anger) I had put a kit in myself and obviously stuffed up. Pulled, had an expert do the thing. Success. I think you taking it to a brake shop is a good idea. And you now know why!

I did some reading around the brake system when I had a bad master cylinder in need of replacement. It's bl**dy complicated and is linked to the power steering for some reason! Probably to stop muppets like me playing with it!

This from the UK quattro Network:

"On the MB and RR Audi ur-quattros, a tandem pump provides both steering and brake assist.  The rear part of the pump is a standard power steering pump fed by a translucent header tank.  A small internal hole feeds a small amount of oil into the front section of the pump which uses two tiny pistons driven by an eccentric to supply high pressure hydraulic oil for the brake assist system.  The smaller of the three hoses coming from the pump goes to the brake pressure accumulator which contains a built-in regulator.

etc etc etc"

They could have just copied a good Japper setup, like Honda.

Anyway, I found two reconditioned ones in England and Germany for about $700 landed here, then found an Audi 100 one in US with exact same part no for $150 brand new landed here :)

Got the work done by a Euro specialist in Hamilton - he charged bugger all. He also fixed a leaking clutch master as well.

Perfect brakes now. And I don't have to keep topping up the clutch reservoir.

The suspension has settled a bit. Reckon my old car would pass the shoe test?

Going in for wheel alignment, brakes bleeding and exhaust alignment.
I've bled the brakes twice and they're still spongy, time for a pro to do them. Exhaust alignment because them doing it on a ramp is much easier than me laying on my back under the car.

Apparently the brakes work properly now!
Update on the list :D

That's some list.
I would be too scared to write a list incase wify found it and relised the true cost of having a car as a toy.

She asked me the other day how much I'd spent on the car. So I told her. Still married so that's good :D

I bet the next project will be a new kitchen.🙌 About the same cost of an Audi restoration 😣

I do most of the cooking! :D

Wheel alignment done, brakes bled, exhaust adjusted but still knocking when lifting off the throttle. Next: rusty sill and working Speedo.

I?m a firm believer in full disclosure too. Nearly there, would be nice to get some summer motoring in with it but one can?t rush these things.

I'm planning to drive it to Leadfoot Festival for Waitangi weekend. I hope it's able to do it by then :D

And the nice part about restoration on a car of this prestige.
They tend to appreciate rather then depreciate.

Planning Leadfoot too... But late January with no aircon... The 911 might win that one!

I survived more than 40 years driving without aircon, as did many other,s so opening a window is not too difficult if temperatures start rising
