I'm wondering the same. But then they have older vehicles in all the time so you'd think they'd be used to them.

I have bled the master yes. it has had a new one at some point, I think Steve replaced it sometime in the last few years, could be wrong there.

It feels a bit soft at the top of the pedal then lower down it bites much better. I'll get it to someone who knows what they're doing as I want this sorted :)

The reason I questioned this, my Lotus always failed the handbrake test until I thought of a cheat to pass , then it returned to normal......................they simply expected too much from it.............umbrella handbrake actuating  a tiny 1" square pads on the disc.
Prior to going to the testing station, I wound the adjusters up till the pads were dragging on the discs, went for the test and voila.

On my UR (LHD) the feds complained about too much pedal travel. As the pedal height is adjustable I bought it up to the level of the clutch pedal. The Feds said this was much better. It's all in the mind isn't it. There was no change in braking ability.

Your right in taking it to someone even if it's just to confirm that all is ok.
Brakes is not something you want to go wrong.
If all is ok then a temporary adjustments of the pedal to pass warrent might be in order.

I'm taking it to the Toy Shop Wellington tomorrow night. They happen to be there late for a training session and John the owner has very kindly said I can drop Rusty off after rush hour. It's about a 20km drive. I've organised the Mrs as support vehicle and taxi home :D

I have a couple of master cylinders laying around if you need one for a comparison or whatever....sounds like bull crap to me....jerks. the brakes in these things aren't the best by todays standards but they do work and will stop you.

I have seen that yes, thanks.
This is also useful:
http://www.20v.org/brakprob.htm
And according to those tests it's definitely not the brake bomb at fault.

That was awesome! First drive on the motorway, doing the 20km to The Toy Shop Wellington.
Made a new friend at the petrol station. That will happen a lot I think.
And what's that in the background in pic 2? A Coupe quattro with properly working brakes, that's what.

Not sorted yet. Had a drive of Takas' CQ and his brakes are way better at the top end, mine has nothing until about 2/3 of the way down. Not confidence-inspiring.
Toyshop will sort it :D The front wheels were hot when I arrived so the brakes are definitely binding, so they're going to remove and service the calipers first and go from there.

This is the update from today:

There is a fluid leak at accumulator area which needs sorting.
Calipers seem OK.
They are going to take a look at master cylinder today.
The discs aren’t right. The pads don’t contact the full surface area.

Toy Shop supplied the discs and are going to resolve that issue. New discs will be a week, so Rusty will be sleeping there for a while.

I've asked for a price to change gearbox and rear diff fluids while it's there. I don't fancy doing those without a hoist.
