Commuted in Rusty today
Of course I have a new issue. Pretty sure petrol is not meant to come out of the petrol cap.

Mine does if parked with other side higher than the cap ie angle parking on a hill. I seem to remember years ago a thread on this in quattroforum and it was a reasonably common occurrence. The answer was not to fill it right up. Besides that it is a health and safety issue. A complete fill  can cause heart attacks at the service station counter.

I've had a couple of responses on Facebook saying similar things, and that it could just be the petrol cap seal, or even that I just haven't tightened it properly.
As for a complete fill - 90 litres of 98 is over $230 now.

Put it this way - it hasn't failed me yet.

Better get that gasket changed soon I think, it's seeping a bit of coolant.

Without that 5 cylinder sound?

Up another 4c this morning. Sight. Ah well, what can you do?

I think I may have fixed the petrol smell issue by removing and re-fitting the fuel cap :D :D :D

On the way home we had 4 people in the car, and it started and went well. Rear wheels were rubbing though. It seems to be about 2cm lower on the rear left, which is weird, and doesn't help.
Not sure why that would be but I'm going to have to give in and take it apart at some point I think. I'd like it to be a little higher at the back, but I'm not sure how I can raise it just a bit without changing springs.

Also I really need to get a resonator added to the exhaust - the drone at 90-100kph is a bit much

Looking at the last pic posted, I think a slight lift at the rear would enhance the appearance.
Sagging tail ends is more a '60s look

Went to the petrolheads breakfast yesterday, and visited a few shops. No problems were encountered!

Could be worth a trial.......you don't need much. Possibly firm the ride a little.
At the price, you have nothing to lose.

I left Rusty in the capable hands of Midas Car Care Porirua to get a resonator added to the exhaust. I love the Milltek's look and sound but at motorway speed there is a droning which is not conducive to long trips.

Oh man it's so much more civilised. But still sounds awesome.

Also I think I need to worry about my daughter and cars.

Random photos of Rusty's underside while it was on the hoist. The vacuum hardline to the centre diff lock is a bit corroded.

The factory wiring is pretty spaghetti-like, but I didn't help matters by adding my own little switched live distribution board, which has grown into a mess of "temporary" additions to get things working. I've added several bits of tech, plus bypassed a couple of factory wires to fix issues, and ended up with an unlabelled mess. So I need to take it all apart, re-do and label it. I found this really neat fuse board on Ebay which I'll move everything over to, and label  properly. I got as far as mounting it under the dash before my fingers went numb. We're having a bit of a cold snap here in Wellington!

No more starting issues then?

I think I can confidently say that that issue is fixed.

Driving up this twisty hill road was awesome, really the first time I've driven Rusty like that. There's still a list of things to do but I'm definitely getting there.
