Out in the wild!
After 100km or so of general driving the fuel gauge seems to have settled to a consistent reading, about 10l less than the actual amount but as long as it stays consistent that's fine by me.

That?s good news Rob. Do you think they might calibrate the sensor like that so that ?useable? fuel is measured with the last 10L a reserve?

RobClubley

Could be yes - it has always read that way - before I pulled out the tank it was flashing E and there was about 12l in the tank.

Sounds about right for an 80s car. I seem to remember my MK2s having a tank that was also about 10l bigger than the capacity stated in the manual. I was always told this was done so that you never ran the tank dry and ended up picking up all the crap at the bottom of the tank.

Must be a good feeling to have the car mobile again and hopefully, reliable at last.

Heck yeah!
I just plan to use it as much as possible now. Next mission is the Gumboot Rally in September - 1500km of driving in one weekend.
Really looking forward to that one.

I really do admire your bravery Rob, whenever I take my car out i seek out the most remote parking spot. Good for both my physical and mental health   ;D

I do that too when I can but I have made the decision not to be precious about this car even though it's obviously special to me and in general.

In the end it's a car and it needs to be driven and used, or what's the point of owning it?

So I have decided to accept that it will get stone chips etc. They'll still bother me of course but I will decide to be chill about it :D
