Never driven a Mk1 GTi so not fully qualified to comment.? But the Mk2 16v is definitely a great drivers car.

The Mk1 would have to be pretty sensational for me to trade.? And I like my mod cons (e/w, p/s etc) too much to move to a Mk1 GTi... unless of course the Mk1 was just a weekend car

Well this is a really big call, but of all the cars I have driven (Dad managers a car yard) I have never had the buzz I get when driving my Mk1 GTI.
For me e/w, p/s only weighs cars down. The lighter the better in my books.

Different strokes I guess.  I couldn't cope with Auckland traffic and working in the city if I didn't e/w and p/s.  Maybe I'm just soft....  :)

Just makes your arm muscles bigger when you dont have P/S or E/W, the ladies love it? ;)

I agree that a mk1 will beat a mk2 16v around most tracks, it seems that to be able to really yank a car around it has to be under a certain weight. the mk1 is whilst the mk2 isint. And whilst the G60 sounds like a good car ive heard they are hopelessly unreliable. With a 2litre donk in my mk1 im going to blow everyone away, 666 included 8)
