I have been looking at replacing the S3 to an A4 1.8T at some stage but there is a big fluctuation in power ratings from 110kw, 120, 140 and 165kw.  Did they really come out with he 165kw? Does it have the k04 or just a hogh boost chip?

This one has 165kw from what carjam is saying:  http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=303985694

Has anyone driven one of the 165kw models?

i don't believe there was ever a 165 KW version. There are 4 variants as i understand it. 110KW, 120KW, 132KW and 140KW. Mine is a 140KW (says 165 in carjam though) and in standard form it goes ok. Just ok. Your S3 will be a lot quicker. However i chipped mine to around 165KW and now it goes really well. much the same as a standard S3. Ask the owner to check his service manual inside the front cover and it will say what power the engine is. I bet it will be 140KW as it is the 6 speed manual like mine.

I seem to remember a unqiue run of 1.8T which had higher output (had a unique turbo) and slightly different trim. Last of the B6's. Remember reading about it in the ~herald.
I enquired about it 2 years later with CCS (looking for a 2nd had car), and they couldnt remember, so at that stage i gave up enquiring further.

I may be wrong

PS. and no i'm not getting confused with EMD chiped cars. :)

You are right, I forgot the 132kw version.  Who chipped the 140kw engine for you?  btw there should be a sticker in the boot well with the kw rating.

torque performance did the remap with the help of their dyno. I'd recommend them for sure!

As far as I know the 1.8t 6 speed manual Avant came out factory chipped with 165kw but not the sedans.

maybe some last runout versions were chipped by EMD. That said, mine is Oct 2004 and it was 140KW.

Simon MK2 are you able to confirm if there was ever a 165KW?

Sorry to revive a 13+ year old thread, but I was wondering if this was ever confirmed or not. I own a stock, late B6 s-line avant with the 140KW BEX motor and 6 speed tranny. Carjam lists my car as 165KW which does seem odd to me. I wonder if the car in that trademe listing was mine. My plate is CTR705. The options sticker under the rear seats says 140KW too.

That being said, I have roll raced my friend who owns a stock Mk5 Gti and pulled away from him every time (on a closed course obviously  ;) ). This shouldn't happen as he is supposed to make more power and weigh less, with a quicker transmission. Maybe something is wrong with his car haha.

Hopefully someone sees this. If not I guess we'll never know.

Yours has probably been chipped, and (or) the gti is in need of some attention.

Those carjam records are notoriously unreliable. Whatever it says on your options sticker will be correct (although it may have a tune). By way of example, the A4 1.8TQ with AEB engine was 110kw, whilst the facelift with AJL was 132kw. All carjam records say 110kw for both these models.

Only just saw this now. Thanks for clarifying. Wonder how this switch up happened because I hadn't heard of Carjam records overstating power figures before. Cheers!
