Wife's 2013 Tiguan 2l tdi  had this fault at 3 1/2 years. Majority of the repair was done by VW NZ as the vehicle was just out of waranty. Last week engine check light came on and after it was examine by the dealer it needs to have the ERV replaced again. Apparently VW NZ recommend a different part number valve for the repair. Is it time to sell the tiguan? I thought that the 2l tdi engine would be bullet proof.

just get the EGR valve deleted

and get a tune with a EGR delete on it, never have the problem again and have a TDI that goes way better .

Thanks Anton. Picked the up the Tiguan after they had it for 2 days. Thankfully the initial part had a 2 yr warranty and so no charge. Apparently its a 1600 part + labour.
