quattro coupe clutch

so I'm waiting for a WOF this morning, at my regular garage in Howick, and the clutch pedal decides to ruin the day by freezing up.
Couldn't push it to the floor, very hard.
Fortunately it happened at the garage, so she is checked in for investigative surgery Monday.

Any ideas people?, usually if the clutch goes, the pedal will go to the floor etc.

I'm hoping its just a linkage / fluid problem
