Hi Guys,

Possibly a long shot...

Can anyone edit the DTCs on Bosch ME7.1.1 (2006 Golf R32 ecu, 022 906 032 CE)???

I want to get rid of the "049409 - No Communication with Transmission Control Module U0101 - 008 - ", because it doesn't have a DSG attached anymore, and the ECU can't be coded to manual trans (I do want to find the manual version too 022 906 032 CD).

Once that code is gone, the ABS code for no trans comms should disappear too, if it's done right.

I want to get the correct, manual ECU, but I'd like to get this code gone for now, so I can at least get a Cert and WOF sometime soon.

I'm not a complete novice, but I can't get my head around where to find the DTC tables in the hex dumps or anything, and I've already got enough to do! I've manually pulled the SKC by reading the EEPROM with a universal chip reader, so either advice on how to do this, OR if I can send the ECU to someone would be fine. I'd like to be able to do it myself though, just so I can say I did it  8) Either way though  ;D

Thanks,

Allan.

Might be worth trying to get hold of United Motorsports (UM), from memory their UK based guy has done a lot with ECUs for Mk4 and 5 R32s.

Cheers,

I'll keep that in mind - Hans may be able to help me out too, so we'll see how we get on (after I fix my laptop!).

Flash  your existing ECU to a Manual file.
This should rectify your issue.

ECU swapping on the mk5 platform, can be somewhat of a paint to say the least.

You should be able to go in to can gateway and un check auto trans, this will stop the system looking for the dsg.
Did that on our Golf when converting to manual, no re flash needed.
Email me if you need clarification.

This will also work. But errors in the ECU may remain.
As that is what happened in a car that was tuned for me many years ago.
Either way, there are many people on the forum willing to help. So hopefully we can all work together to get it sorted.

For the record there were no errors remaining in ours once reconfigured. You have to look at the install list in can gateway, this list has all the modules the system is looking for.

I've recoded the gateway, cluster etc to manual, but the engine is still looking for the DSG :-(

The ABS picks up on this, and IT then brings up a missing trans code. Then, of course. the ABS light is on, and I can't get a WOF/cert like that :-(

The engine ECU doesn't accept manual coding, and I've had mixed views on whether it'll take manual software.

I've still got a fair bit to do - the 4-motion isn't anstalled yet either.

Hans thinks he can get the code, but I have to pull the BIN again, first.

My laptop crapped out, so I have to fix that, but I'm building a bench flash loom too - just to make it easy/quick.

I think the R32 ECU's don't hold auto and manual coding, because they don't have the space, where the 4 cylinder ones often seem happier from what I've seen online  :(

I'm wary of installing manual software just now, in case I brick it - I have no spare!

I do have to get another ECU anyway, as I had to repair a couple of earth tracks in this one ;) and I want an "intact" one eventually, but I'd like this one to play with too :-)

I have an AUdi 3.2 ECU, but it's a bit different, having crypto (4C) Immo, on a different eeprom, and it was DSG anyway. I also don't think it's capable on integrating with the VW immo (4A).

I'll have to get my crap sorted first anyway  ;D

Thanks heaps guys!!!

until your ABS is code free, soft coding on the ECU will not work. Had this 2 weeks ago.
Next time I am near a manual R32 I will do a full san log and shared it with you.

That might provide you with some long coding on the ABS and ECU.

Any info is GRATEFULLY accpted - Thanks!!!  ;D

The R32 gear Ive used is all 2006 stuff - which makes it somewhat easier - it's an MK60 4-motion ABS unit that I got from John (80 vert). It's a short coding one.

I changed the wiring loop to match my brake size, recoded it as required, and it's happy, other than the code for Engine ECU DTCs, and the trans code - I'm 99% sure the trans code disappears from the ABS, if the ECU stops recording that fault.

Here is a recent full scan - the other ABS errors are just from not doing the adaptations yet - still have clutch hydraulics to install when they arrive, so no driving yet, and of course, the haldex is still on my garage floor  ;):

As you can see, the ECU and Cluster are still matched, but both think they are still in a Golf... not a 1T chassis  >:D

All in all, I think it's gone really well so far. Should go like a cut cat, once it's able to move under it's own power  8)

I nearly got my bench cable sorted, but the laptop isn't quite sorted, and my desktop is an ancient clunker!

Thanks again!

GLIDN

we chatted a few times on the VCDS forum.

Right... as of now. Do you have any codes in the ABS module?
If there are, it will not allow you to make any changes or code clearing in the ECU.
No idea why thou, it seems specific to the R32 MED ST10 and Golf R MED9 ECU's.

Do you want to decode the haldex from can gateway. Let's purely do this as a test, to get everything to a minimal that there are no errors. (If possible)
Then add one feature at a time, till it faults. Then decode and move on to next coding. Do this till you have most features required other than the last 2-3 things.

Then check to insure, clutch switch, brake light switch etc are all there. Then start coding the likes of the Haldex.

Hopefully this provides some idea on how to proceed.

Thanks Guys,

I just flashed the ECU with the bin from a CD suffix ECU, which is the manual version. Turns out that doesn't work either! It took out the entire can network, and I had no coms with anything expect the gateway, pretty much.

I flashed it back to the DSG software, and it's back to communicating now.

Obviously there are hardware differences! Grrrr.

I'll try the auto flash, with the trans code deleted for now, and see how that goes.

I need to get another ECU anyhow, because this one has been repaired already, and I don't want it in there long term.

Thanks guys.

^^^ It was from the internet... so it must be good, right? :-) There were two manual files I tried, and both were supposedly from stock ECU's, same result. It needs a few other things sorted anyway, so this ECU thing isn't a rush.

In other news..
I drove it to work today.

NEEDS the 4-motion installed! so I'm going to do that next anyway. I know it's not "legal" to drive, but it does have a WOF until March  ;D, so I can test drive it every now and then, to make sure it's A-OK.

Once I get the 4-motion in, it'll remove the other ABS fault code (missing 4WD controller), and once the Trans fault is gone, I can do the system test properly to clear the lights. it NEEDS 4WD and traction control functioning.

With the Auto ECU, it rev hangs somewhat between gears, and it's a little touchy moving from a stop.

A little Video:

I think I'll focus on the other work for now, and see what comes of this ECU thing as I go. I might find some trick some where... or just have to spring for a manual ECU!  :o

The rev hang is due to it not recognising the clutch position switch, test it with VCDS as to wether it " sees" it.

Yeah, I was going to... but it's parked up again now :-)

Rear end is apart, so the 4-motion can go in, and have to make a custom alloy fuel tank  ;D

FWD is a COMPLETE waste of time with the R32 lump in there!
