Sorta Avus-like, but not

5x100 of course. Can't say if they are 17 or 18

Thanks, both of you  :)

I was thinking they were oem, only because of the centrecaps - do you think they would accept genuine caps or they would just be decals?

Do you think they are 16 or 17?

they appear to have been made as 17" but can't comment on the centre caps, they seem to no longer be in production

I'm too lazy to go and look at the car in question, with a view to putting the wheels on a Mk1 TT

They look like 17's to me, but what you think? Possibly 16 but definitely not 18?

Found an old sales brochure which states that they were made 16 17 and 18 in 5x100

I think the marketing image of an 18 is somewhat over-exaggerated though

this special edition had 17s

hard to pick, if the car is for sale or parting out why not just ask?

Largely because getting the guys in a salvage yard that sells 100 or more cars a week to go looking at a set of old vw beetle wheels is something I try to avoid

I also have oem 18s on my Roadster, already, so I'm sure these ones are not 18.  The coupe I have in mind for these MAKs is for resale. It's on oem 16's atm and a set of 17s would add some value

What are opinions of the MAK style on TT?

Adding MAK wheels would decrease the value IMO.

That's one vote against :)

I'm somewhat ambivalent, but I have owned a few TTs over the years and right back to when they were almost new to the market the 16s were never liked, and at the very least the factory 17s were a desirable upgrade.

MAK is a good name imo (not Chinese, at least), and the style is quite similar to the factory 18s that you see on my Roadster.  What would be the reason for your aversion to MAK, or to Raves in particular?

Sorry but I would also recommend to stay oem on this one.

LOL, don't apologise. Originality-wise I would agree. Aesthetically I thing the MAKs are a good look, though. (Particularly viewed in context of the original oem 18s being very similar, and that the MAKs also look a lot like an S4 Avus)

I agree an oem upgrade to 17s or 18s at the time would have been desirable. However on a 15 year old car, wheel size would have very little impact on price. Going non oem for such a small size difference wouldn't add value imo.

MAK wheels are ok in quality, but nothing special so my advice would still be go oem.

Maybe sell it on the MAKs and throw in the oems for the purist ;)

Don't forget the average buyer takes to a car on initial eye-appeal, and is neither a purist nor an enthusiast
