Would appreciate any feedback on this model. I currently own a very well maintained 2007 A4 quattro s-line avant which has 168k on it...so, sadly time to replace.

I am considering a 2006 S4 Avant fresh import with a full service history and only 40k on the clock. Very nice car...yes, it will cost me more at the pump...that's the price one pays for a V8.

Anything else I should be aware of? My other consderation is coming up a few years and getting a B8 A4...that's my accountant talking in the background.

All feedback will be greatly appreciated.

I'm pretty sure your accountant would tell you to keep the A4, or sell it and buy a Toyota/Hyundai etc

Filx

I would suggest a B8 2.0TQ. With a remap you get good performance, you get a newer car with a lot more modern chassis/interior and it would be cheaper to run than the V8.

^^ Actually yep I would go along with that. I really like the B8 shape.

Honestly the B6/7 S4 would be the last choice of car personally.
I would rather buy a corolla or even a Honda before buying an B6/7 S4 by any means.

The choice provided in the B8 2.0TSI as Filx and Le Mans indicated would be the best overall solution. If you have to upgrade.

Thanks for the feedback....so, here's the angle...male aged 55, loves driving almost as much as..y'know... (don't want a blonde, and a red sports car.....even more expensive (sorry ladies.. no offence intended, just speaking from experience), always wanted a V8...German not American....'06 B7 S4 Avant, Sprint Blue 40km, full service history...drives sooooo well. I totally get your comments and my common sense agrees,

Any more comments will be fully considered....I also like the B8 2.0TQ S-line...so if anyone out there is selling said model with low kms....post me...I can be swayed...brmm brmmm.

If you want a V8 by all means get one! The B7 S4 is rarer than the B7 RS4 from what I can see.

We can only provide advice here.
It's your choice to make, if you want one? Then do get one.
Don't let us stop you.

Even thought my comment above some what indicated this. Which was not my intention sorry.
I have seen a few members having a few too many issues with their S4's.
These are somewhat much like the B5 S4, great cars indeed. But if anything goes wrong?
The default reply will happen, the engine has to come out for that repair.

As long as you go into this with your eyes wide open and try to expect the unexpected?
You will be good to go.

I'm guessing you are looking at the one on TM for $32k.... You could stretch a small amount more and get the B8 S4. There are a fair few around the $36k mark
Just saying... With an ECU remap this will even give the B8 RS4 a good run for it's money.

Haha, was not sure what his budget was. But that would be the ultimate wagon indeed.
Pulley upgrade and a remap. Boom 333hp all the way to 461hp. Makes for one seriously nice and quick car.

Would you then prefer a supercharge whine or v8 rumble?

Budget was a little lower than B8...the main attraction is the low kms...particularly as I do a lot of open road driving....plus, you guessed it, the V8 rumble.

I used to have a B6 S4 prior to my B7 RS4. Was a great car...not as fast as I really would have anticipated, but plenty quick enough. Same V8 motor as B7 S4 I think...not light on fuel, but not horrendous. E.G. I get the same mileage out of our 2012 3.2l Toyota Highlander.
I like fast toys.

Again thanks for the info. I expect it be heavier on fuel around town, but I hear their not bad on the open road...V8 just ticking along.

There are also other euro options if you want a V8.
Maybe not as practical as an Avant, but you can pick up something crazy like an E55 AMG for mid 20s. Although I imagine that maintenance on something like that will be in the same ballpark as Audi RS models. But 350kw  :o and it sounds pretty good of course.
This is an outrageous amount of car for the money really http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/used-cars/mercedesbenz/auction-1212910482.htm

How about a BMW E61 550i Touring (270kw):

http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/used-cars/bmw/auction-1220701023.htm

A close friend of mine has a 550 like this and they are a fantastic car. You have to really want the V8 though when you could get a 535i M Sport with that lovely and insanely tuneable twin turbo 6 up front.

Good luck finding one....
Lots of 335i M-Sports out there but never actually seen a 535i here in NZ

My best mate has an E61 M5 Touring.

It's ludicrously awesome... even before you press the M button!

Oh right, I don?t really follow BMWs all that much so didn?t realise the 535s were that hard to find. The 550 is a really nice car and certainly no slouch either. Just if one could get the twin turbo that would probably be my choice of the two.
