Anyone here got long term tuned DSG GTI's?

Very keen to hear about your reliability - Have you had any issues, how long has it been tuned for etc?

Considering doing a tune, but all I can find is bad things online - people complain about coil pack failure, slipping clutches, dead mechatronic units, torn diverter valves etc
But I guess people with good experiences may not go to message board forums and talk about it

Hows everyone here's experiences been?

Pjai

Pretty long term here since 2010.

No issue pretty much, had coils failure this year it's been a while, so it's probably to be expected anyway.

Tuned mine over 7 years ago @ 90,000kms. Mines a DSG and MK5. ECU + DSG tuned
Currently at 180,000kms. Still going strong.

Only issue I ever had was a failing fuel pump.

Just make sure you service your car properly at the recommended intervals and you'll be fine.

nzpt stage 1 reflash in 2013.

To be fair all of the issues you have listed are just normal DSG and 2.0 TSI problems, not really related to the tuning.
Think of the stage 1 tune as simply optimising your engine. In many cases it's actually better for the engine than the stock tune.

That's good to hear, I think the diverter valve and coil packs were the most common issue I came across - but perhaps these issues are down to how the owner drove the vehicle and the climate

Hey guys,

What have you done for maintenance post tune? Do you just continue to follow the service schedule or do services need to be adjusted? For instance in the service schedule it says to use 5w-30 long life engine oil and replace it every 12 months or 15,000km, after tune do you continue to do this or replace oil every 6 months instead?

schattenblau

still umming and ahhhing  about a tune ?

just do it !

;D

almost all are reversible if you don't like the results.

regular servicing is all you need unless you are driving the car harder, just like a non-tuned car.

Naekyr

This tune is not easily reversed or free, its stage 2 and requires the downpipe, the car won't run so good if the downpipe stays and i put her back to stock - not to mention the constant check engine light

schattenblau

ah ok, this is the first time you mentioned stage 2.

::)

Naekyr

ha fair enough, does this change things?

Ah you guys convinced me eventually

The car is now Stage 2 (ECU and DSG tuned) with a high flow and non resonated turboback exhaust

Very impressed with the performance, it's now a rocket ship when you get on the throttle but nice and smooth when just cruising and also the sound is fantastic, like the little crackles and the upshift pops are nice and loud too, very happy so far - can't wait to let go in a tunnel to hear it now

Hey guys wondering where did u get your tunes from

Numerous companies offer tuning, depends on your location or Brand preference (if you have one). This list is not exhaustive

Auckland:
1) Eurosurgeon - they do their own tuning offerings and APR
2) NZPT - pretty sure they do their own tuning offerings
3) HSP Tuning - Unitronic (flash at home available) and ETuners
4) Harry's Euro - Unitronic (flash at home available)

Wellington:
1) Sutherland Performance - not sure

Christchurch:
1) Alittletuningco - Integrated Engineering (flash at home available)

Queenstown:
1) M-Developments - APR
