Family member is in the market, looking around the 40-45k mark.
4wd, Auto, leather ideally.
What do we need to look out for?
Cheers

Had mine nearly 2 years, approx 17,000kms.

Only issues so far:

Drivers seat creaking
High level stop light on canopy cracked within 6 months

Probably not old enough or done enough kms for any issues to occur.

Very few had leather, and those that did were mostly retrimmed here in Auckland.

Later model 2014/15 had an updated interior. Bluetooth music streaming was added along with front and rear park sensors, camera (rubbish quality) etc.

Some have diff lock, but this was always an option I believe.

Keys are around $400-500ea so having two remotes is an advantage.

Towbar and factory wiring expensive to fit later, but most were done new in nz.

Check for rust as they do seem susceptible to it. Particularly around the headlights. I think the paint is very thin, much like the steel panels.  Leaning up against the doors will buckle them, much like the roof which I did when washing mine the other day.

Check dealers when searching as private sellers are often unrealistic with their expectations.

Cheers for that info, this one has his attention at the moment.
Do they have mounting points for the roof racks from factory?

Pretty sure they all have factory mounting points, as prorack, rhino, etc all have mounting fit kits to fit directly.

yes there are mounting points from factory. Mine has had roof rails added so that you can move the racks to suit the load.

I've had 2WD, 4WD manual and AWD Auto.

The AWD Auto is hands down far superior and safer - permanent four wheel drive with torsen centre diff. So much more sure-footed, and the auto box (from the A8) is a dream.

Awesome good to know, AWD Auto is definitely what he will go for.
I'm going to have a look at one this weekend on his behalf so will report back if I have more questions.

What are they like for power? He's coming from a tuned Touareg R5.

Good torque but no hotshoe. Don't know what the Toureg is like but I'm sure he'll find it slower and less refined. But the load carrying and practicality on an altogether different level. Horses for courses. If punch is what he's wanting he can get a piggyback ECU which gives significant improvement, but seriously, the standard 2L diesel has always done what I wanted to do - the V6 would be sweet but unneccesary IMHO.

If stock power in the Amarok is not sufficient?
Tuning is an option, I have actually tune a few now, including a member on Vask's car also.

Definitely is an option - but I've considered it and decided in this type of vehicle it's unnecessary (I didn't say undesirable! :) ), and it reduces your margin of engine safety, which the manufacturers set quite high.

Production was initially only in Argentina, then they added a line in Germany for the European market. My guess would be that all RHD models are made in Argentina?
