I've not had the car long, and a bit of a Saturday morning mechanic.

Apart from a slightly high idle 1050rpm it's always run Ok. Until yesterday after driving for awhile
around town I got to my driveway, sat in neutral the rev's were up around 1200rpm and then it
just died. The lights came on, on the dash. Turned off and it starts again, runs for a bit then dies
just like you've turned off the ignition.
You can hear a little hiccup in the engine just before it dies. Once it took awhile to turnover & start.

I've already changed leads, spark plugs.
Cleaned out the throttle body.
Checked for vacuum hoses off somewhere, but hard to find.
The ISV still makes a buzzer noise when the ignition is on.
On the first turn of key you can hear whiring buzzing noise before start (fuel pump OK ??)

Has anyone got any suggestions on what else to look for??

Cheers

The high idle may be an air leak in the intake (or just poorly set).

You haven't mentioned the fuel filter.... Then when it dies do all dash functions and lights go out, or appear normal.

When the engine cuts out the lights on dash stay on.

Yesterday it wouldn't start. So I went around the engine bay making sure everything
was connected. Whats with the vacuum system on these things. Tubes everywhere! So brittle too.

The only thing I could find a bit loose was the engine temp switch (just below spark plug) which clicked into
place when I pushed it.
Whether it was coincidence or not, but the car started after that. I let it idle for 10min and no cutting out.
I turned it off & on a couple of times, and no problem. I haven't taken it for a drive yet, to get it really warm, so.....
will wait and see. At first start the rev's started around 900rpm , but rose slightly over 1000rpm as I rev'd it and it got a little warmer.

I've checked all around the air intake system. The idle screw has had some crap put in the end of it that's gone hard.
I dug it out and exposed the head of a screw, but haven't fiddled with it yet.

I'll check all pipes, tubes and hose clamps next.

As much of a pain in the ass these old mk2''s can be, I like the way they teach you along the way.
Over the years I've started from knowing how to change oil to last year stripping and rebuild a gear box.
I wonder what will come next..
