Jay - you ever considered a Tiguan R-line for the missus. (132Kw 2.0T petrol). Great engine and has the same Mk6 GTI Steering wheel. Wife loves it! I'm actually enjoying it as much as the R32. Handles surprisingly well!

She likes the new Tiguan - actually asked if we can test drive one. However the R-line is almost $60k right now.

Hennie says the mk1 R-line is a very good drive though! Glad to hear you are enjoying it!

^^^  ewwwwwww

horrid things !

>:D

You've driven one? i was considering one or a mk7 pp gti but settled on the Octavia instead.

Had a cheeky look on TM, good value and I'm sure it goes like stink, but wouldn't it be a downgrade on most other areas?

yes, i've driven the old 5cy st and the newer 2.0 cyl ecoboost st

lots of power on paper but in typical ford fashion, their 184kw barely keeps up with vag's 162kw...

the 2.0 is rather dull too, lacks the sparkle of the latest ea888.

the 5cyl was much characterful.

the recaro seats are better in the 2.0,  the interior is better in the old car, except for lack of a left footrest.

on the road it rides roughly, understeers and torque steers like an old mazda 3 mps

overall yes, a big downgrade compared to a mk7 gti pp or octavia

if you want a good ford st look to the fiesta

I drove a motune one and an Ex NZPT stage 2 and they go pretty well. but Jay will need to make the call as to what he intends doing with the car keep stock or looking for a good platform for tuning.
Personally i cant drive stock cars anymore as usually the car i'm replacing is quicker than the stock form of the car I'm upgrading too haha. i'm going to find it very hard to find a suitable replacement for the Octavia when it comes time to upgrade without dropping serious $$$

That is nice, just a shame the interior is only cloth.

Once you have leather with seat warmers, you never go back

Nothing a good manual cut and polish can't fix.

when you're powering through the twisties, savouring the tricky vaq diff, cloth holds you better than slippery leather.

;D

cloth is also lighter, bringing positive benefits to your power-to-weight ratio

Id also rather have cloth. Grips better, doesn't get home in summer and doesn't get cold in winter. People w@nk on about heated seats but they never turn them on before they sit on them, and once they are heating it just feels like you've pi$$ed yourself.
