Hey guys,
New car time so looking at both options.
Interested to hear your opinions on both.
I'm of course leaning towards the R but wondering if there's anything particularly I should look out for.
Have never owned a car with haldex and have heard horror stories but you only hear the bad normally so taking them all with a grain of salt.

Thoughts and opinions welcomed.

Going by the signature he likes golfs.

As far as I'm concerned the R is superior in almost every aspect, its certainly a better, faster drive. The only thing I don't like about the R is that it looks more boring, the lack of Red colour that you get with the GTI on the interior and exterior. The R has a better looking bodykit though..

As for driving the vehicle, the R is always going to win unless you actually enjoy wheelspin and wheelhop, with the R you get better traction and power delivery and of course its faster, if you want to tune the car its going to be faster than a tuned GTI as well. If you can afford the R I'd go with that, I really like the twin tail pipe in the center look more than other model tail pipe designs even the MK7 R, you can always make the R look like a GTI on the outside if you really want to

I asked the same quesion a few years ago and decided to go MK6 GTI, reasons being (ymmv)

- less maintenance items on the GTI (less things to go wrong)
- From my experience and what i read, the GTI is a much more involving drive compared to the R
- cheaper to buy and run

PS - i an selling a well sorted, nz-new mk6 GTI  ;D

Cheers

Does the keyless start/entry come standard on the NZ New vehicles?

Weighing up between opting for an NZ New or Jap import.  Seems like with the R, the NZ New vehicles generally come with all the 'options'?  Which is the opposite to the GTI.

Anyone know the inside outs on the options between NZ New / Jap imports?  i.e. 19" wheels, keyless entry, rev camera, any different in engine performance etc..

Naekyr

I would generally go with NZ new if it has a good service history - that's my advice

One of the differences I know if the NZ new Mk6 GTI's have an alarm where as the Jap ones don't (at least not unless there was an option for it), they both have immobilizers of course

as far as i can see the only differences between my10 and my11, aside from some price changes, was that my11 got the ipod jack and cable, plus bluetooth as standard, these were $50 and $750 options on the my10.

:o

From what i've seen (was looking for a Mk6R with leather, DCC, 19" wheels), most NZ new came with cloth, no DCC and 18" wheels. Even the folding mirrors were an option!

I guess it's how they make money.. but folding mirrors should be standard on a then $60k + car lol.

I think DCC, 18" (19" better) and some sort of audio system would be the minimum for me.
