Just watching Q1 on SKY Sports - if you have SKY or other provider carrying it, check out the scheduled coverage.
These are my thoughts and opinions - sometimes I'm wrong, but not often ;-)

i'd be watching if sky didn't kill their weekly fanpass.

#5
eventually found a decent stream.

;D

what an amazing race !

porsche #1 retires

porsche #2 manages to catch leading car and pass it to take the chequered flag.

kiwis win le mans again !

congrats to brendon hartley - earl bamber - timo bernhard

Porsche fluke 2 LeMans wins
I think relying on the opposiion to break down is not the best race winning philosphy.
2016 the car was too slow and this year even more so.
That is not to decry the great drive by the #2 car to come through after such a big delay in the fourth hour but at the end of the day, luck was the big winner

That's the easy answer and Porsche was perilously close to not managing that!!!
The remaining Toyota was still there remember, and they were a LOT faster as was obvious in the opening laps where the lead car sprinted away from the Porsche like Team NZ over Oracle this morning!!

yes, luck played a part but it wasn't the over-riding factor in the porsche #2 win.

>:D

Getting the balance between speed and reliability seems to be one of the keys - mixed up with a whole lot of luck.
As has been said, they had a problem, that cost them an hour, but then they decided to just go for it and it paid off.  8)

A LOT faster over the opening laps doesn't mean jack at Le Mans.  Toyota has had 3 poles and they still haven't won it.  Le Mans history is littered with winners that were far from the fastest car in the race - 1995, 1991 and 1965 all spring to mind as obvious examples.  In each of those cases the winners were the fastest qualifier driving that particular make & model (meaning they didn't just have a fast car and bad luck in qualifying), yet in each case they were at least 10 secs off the pole time.

Luck or not, it's another great day at Le Mans for NZ and in particular, a well deserved win for Hartley :D

PS. I wonder if Mark Webber saw the result and questioned his luck / decision to retire?
