At the risk of looking like an idiot......

I had the cambelt and fan belts replaced on my new to me 1992 b4. A couple of weeks later, I turned on the non working AC on a really hot day just to see if I could get any cold air to come through but all I got was a very loud squealing belt, getting so bad I couldn't drive it. When I turned the AC off, the squealing stopped, but gradually over a month or so, the squeal came back, again to the point it was so loud I couldn't drive it.

Since the AC does not work, I figured I would cut the belt off, which seemed to work....for about 5 mins before the dash lit up with warning lights.

I thought I had figured out the AC compressor was at the bottom left looking from the front of the car, but Did I cut the wrong belt? did I cut the alternator belt?

It runs ok and turns ok. Can I drive it 5km to the mechanic?

Thanks
