Is a 176kW motor simply a 150 remapped?

I have a 150 kW Touareg (2011) and was wondering what the real differences are in the motors. Are they physically different or simply have different mapping. :-\

post your engines code up.
I'll look up on my system, then advise more.

these go well once tuned thou.
if that is of interest to you? by all means send me a PM.
happy to help.

Thanks for the reply.
Not quite sure how/where to get engine codes, but on drivers door arch found:
CASD 2695 0334356.
Is that what you need?
Whats involved with tuning?
Cheers

Hey Jim,

In the boot there is a White label usually stuck in or around the spare wheel location.
This will have the full build codes for your Touareg. Included in this label it has your Engine code.

If still unsure? Please send me a message. To continue this discussion.
Thanks

Hi Glidn,
Any luck with seeing if the set ups for the 150 and the 176 kW motors is the same?

McDoof

I don't think it's the same setup, but reading up on it, it should respond well to to a Stage 1 remap. As in around 50kw and 150NM gain putting it at 200kw and 600NM.

Hi McDoof,
Thanks for the feedback
What is a stage 1 remap, and how does that compare to a stage 2??
Will the TUC handle the extra grunt OK?
Cheers

Stage 1 is software only. It just makes the most of the what installed in the car already. This is where you will find the bulk of your gains. It should cost up to around $1200
Part of the reason the 150kw motor has some decent gains, is that is detuned for low emissions and better economy from the factory. (Assuming you have the Bluemotion variant)
Stage 2 generally includes some hardware changes, such as a high flow down pipe and a bigger free flowing exhaust. Also the removal of the DPF to allow the beast to breath. While this will give you a better spool response and some more power over a stage 1, the difference will not be nearly as big and the cost will be a lot higher. Also with the removal of the DPF you will start to see some smoke under acceleration. Also with the vehicle being a 2011 you could get into  a bit of trouble for removing parts of the emission hardware.
Yes the gearbox should not have any issues with the extra torque.
