Interesting, where's that from? Very small number of coupes.
I wonder if some of the quattros are coupe quattros.

Yes could be, there is a guy on Trade Me message board who has access to NZTA database and provides data on cars for anyone asking so I asked about coupe/urq and thats what he posted back.

Unfortunately tha NZTA data is flawed in that they would allow the registering party to declare the model on the reg form so there is a multitude of descriptions for any specific model. Audi Quattro, Audi Turbo Quattro, Audi turbo 10v coupe etc etc.

An accurate count of the TA data can only be done on vin number decode but this also has its error margin due to manual imput under the old regime prior to border data collection.

Well one of the 4 1982 Coupes is mine, making it almost my rarest car  ;D

Am surprised there are 28 Coupe S showing as registered, didn't think there were that many here.

Correct.
Dad once owned a NZ new 1988 Opel Omega GSI 3000 (1 of 11 that came into the country). I was shocked to see carjam it to see that is was registered as a Opel 651 3000. Clearly this car would have been missed if the NZTA searched for all the GSI's in NZ.

These are cockups happen due to sloppy office staff at car dealers, and secondhand imports being named incorrectly.

Could be an early Hybrid - though not of the clean, green eco variety. You know how unreliable those air-cooled engines are - VW body and a Chrysler V8 engine combo anyone?  ;D

I too wondered that, I assume my coupe quattro is one of 7?.

NZSPQ

My '89 is registered as a "Quattro Turbo" :)

IAN96

...and that research may be assuming correct spelling.  My 1989 Coupe Quottro (yes - wrongly spelt in the NZTA database) is a case in point.  1989 UK import coupe quattro updated with 7A 20V 2.3l - now fully restored.

Just looking at the rego ticket on mine, simply states 1986 Audi Quattro.
Makes me wonder if I can get it regoed with the turbo engine fitted.

Dang!, that's a big fly in the ointment.

John Stone

In Europe the car was always known as an Audi quattro, no other embellishments and often shortened to quattro.

It's also referred to as the ur quattro (ur/original) which differentiated it from the next model which we know as the S2.

I doubt the NZTA data base is run by train spotters so anything could be attributed to the model of the car.....
