Hi vask - my Mk2 (KR 16v) hates the rain. It will misfire in downpours, and if left to sit in the rain it will likely not start.  Any trouble shoots?

Dodgy coils don't like the wet. Also a missing or cracked up scuttle tray (under the bonnet vents) allows water to get allover the ECU.

Mine was temperamental in the wet until I replaced the HT leads with decent 8mm ones

Thanks both, scuttle tray has seen better days and the coil has a few km's on it now. Will check these out.

If you've not checked already, make sure your drainage holes are clear of debris and check the ecu plug too.

Bit of lithium electrical grease on the contacts and if the ecu plug rubber sheath has seen better days wrap it in something waterproof until you can find something more suitable. I'd go over the contacts on the coil too I think...

Disconnect the battery before you do this.

My 8v used to do this in the wet until I replaced the Leads too.

I've read numerous threads about how important the earths are on old golfs, some people don't agree but I keep an eye on mine anyway.

Apologies if this is all obvious.

Thanks SG, that's really helpful.
