Thanks Brian.  I thought that the my Uncle's latest restoration project may also be of interest.  It is a 1958 DKW F94, that I had bought in South Africa from a deceased estate, with the intention of restoration.  In the end, I decided not to ship the car to New Zealand, as I felt its poor condition did not warrant export costs.  It ended up, in storage, standing around waiting for better days.  Eventually, I gave it to my Uncle Etienne, who has been making an absolute stunning job of its restoration!  Here is a "blow by blow" account of what he's done so far;

The DKW Owners Club of Great Britain recently held their "Deek day" - here are a few photographs from that event;

That's a great restoration.  True to the word.

The Welsch DKW's

Founded in 1930 by the car body and art dealer Johann Welsch as a company for car and truck repairs, Karosserie Welsch quickly specialized in bespoke coachwork. By the  1950's Karosserie Welsch was specialising in hearses.

Michael Dietz, grandson of company founder Johann Welsch, leads the company today.

In the late '50's and early '60's they constructed a number of special Auto Union/DKW's;

This car based on a 1000S Coupe, constructed in 1961;

This car - an F12 roadster with custom hard top, from 1964;

Here also, a purpose-built F102 roadster;

Some Schnellasters were also converted for various purposes;

Their fondness for the "Four Rings" has not diminished - and today you can still by a variety of Audi hearses from them!

See their website here: http://welsch-bestattungsfahrzeuge.de/

Deeks in the classifieds...

Plenty of Deeks to choose from at the moment!

Aside from the '58 1000 Coupe I mentioned some time back (which is still listed),  there is, at the moment, on Trademe, this '58 3=6 F94 four door;

(here's the Trademe link - http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/used-cars/other/auction-1328999665.htm )

This Junior (it does come with a new crank, which is very nice);

(here's the Trademe link - http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/used-cars/audi/auction-1324489103.htm )

Looking further afield, there are a couple of nice cars in the UK, like this one (this one being at the more reasonable end of the price spectrum);

here's the link for it;

If you're up for the logistics for importing from South Africa - there's this very tasty Munga;

If you are willing to brave the language barrier and LHD - then this beauty from Brazil could appeal;

Or how about, from Argentina, this immaculate super-rare and ultra desirable Coupe by Fissore?;
