I'm sure something like this has been posted numerous times but thought i'd share a cheap and simple fix to my scratched gearbox surround, which i understand is very common with Mk5's.

$21 from Repco.  (only used a small portion of it).  Took 20 minutes.

1. Unclip gear surround.  Pretty straightforward. There's a light cable that needs unplugging too.
2. Unclip the chrome surround and numbers board.
3. Clean off scratched paint.  (most of this came off with fingernail! Used my wife's nail polish remover for the rest)
4. With a sharp blade, cut out and smooth on the adhesive wrap.  Cut out holes.
5. Put it all back together!

any ideas how to fix the chrome surround? mine has a small piece chipped off when it was bought

You're probably best to source a replacement. It separates easily rom the rest of the surround so i'm sure it'll be available somewhere.

it's the circle hole that holding me back

The gear number holes? I found pressing the carbon wrap down into the holes stretched the film enough to easily to pull it from the underside and it eventually pulled away with a little help from a small blade.

Feeding Cone

Better late than never - I picked up this; with shipping it was US$17.99 - came precut perfectly...

Please put it a review when you have done it.
do you still have to pull the assembly out to get around the edge?

Feeding Cone

Nope; it's got a slit around the top so it can be installed.
Haven't actually put it on yet; but will do it this weekend.
