My brother is after a cheap runaround and stumbled across this Passat.  I know the DSG can be problematic and it will be due a timing chain soon....anything else?

Sticking park brake is a fairly common fault and quite expensive to fix. They drink fuel compared to 2.0T models, especially around town.
Very comfortable open road cruiser though.

If at those KMs the DSG is still strong and smooth, and there is history re DSG and Haldex fluid changes, it should be a reasonably safe I think.

do you need a 4 motion and a V6 as a runaround?
I prefer to keep it simple and get a 2.0T FSI or TDI front wheel drive instead.
