Considering a MK7 GTI - Advice needed

Hi all,

Im considering getting back in the VW Game, Im after a 2013/2014 MK7 GTI. Any recommendations in terms of pre purchase inspections to be done?

Also, any common issues that I should be looking out for?

Fairly.common issue there Nik.
does not matter tuned or stock either. It seems so far to be insufficiently balance turbo. Most where able to establish.

They dropped borg warner turbo's and have since used IHI as supplier from MQB platform onwards.

for pre purchase, probably take it to hennie's workshop to get them to have a look over if you have this option available - I don't reccomend using the AA for pre purchase inspection, I used this for mine and regret it, they do the most basic checking and dont actually know what to check for on individual vehicles, they check the same stuff on every vehicle and dont touch the engine other than compression checks

and fully agree with the above, avoid the 13 models - many users on other forums complaining of blown turbos and that includes stock cars, if you do get a 13 - dont tune it and make sure to maintain the mechanical warranty so if it does go you dont end up out of pocket

But with that being said, if the turbo is going to go - it would most likely have gone already since these cars would be 4 years old now

other than that, I don't think there are many if any other "common" issues, maybe water pump failure and rattles, golf's are full of rattles

By far the most comprehensive pre purchase check is Car Inspection Services, they spend a full 1.5 - 2 hrs checking a car.
AA are not worth the paper its printed on.

Amen to that. They find issues when there are none (confusing polish for paint overspray) and then miss the stuff that actually counts, like an engine that is fouling spark plugs.
