This is how to upgrade the firmware on the 187B revision of the RCD330+.

This will replace Baidu Carlife with Android Auto.

Version 5314 Upgrade:

  • Download the firmware (version 5314) and save the .tar file to the root of a USB flash drive
  • Plug into the head unit, turn on, and hold down the Setup button until the service menu is showing
  • Go into the Software Update option
  • Select the software update and follow the on screen instructions to install
  • The unit will reboot and may request an anti-theft code - enter 0000 to unlock.

When installing version 5314, if you receive the variant conflict error then:

  • Download the firmware (version 5515) and save the .tar file to the root of a USB flash drive
  • Plug into the head unit, turn on, and hold down the Setup button until the service menu is showing
  • Go into the Software Update option
  • Select the software update and follow the on screen instructions to install
  • The unit will reboot and may request an anti-theft code - enter 0000 to unlock
  • Now follow the instructions above to install firmware version 5314.

My crngiar RCD330+ 6RD035187B HW: 534 came with firmware 5515 and appears to work fine so far.

Just FYI.

Assuming you're using iOS, does your Siri work correctly? On mine I can't get the voice to come through regardless of what I do.  :-\

Sorry for not replying sooner.

I have Android Auto with FW 5515 (not car life). MY09 R36

Works pretty much fine except:

Highline camera not compatible so no camera as of yet

Android Auto hangs on a semi-regular basis and I have to reboot (long press of power button). Could be a phone compatibility issue (LG G6+) as at first it wouldn't work at all until I enabled USB debugging.

Callers complain of an echo.

Steering wheel buttons don't work due to incompatible can language. I have the 8-button wheel and red MFD. Newer 12-button wheels and colour MFD apparently work ok.

Fairly often calls answer on handset or speakerphone mode not Bluetooth. Sometimes I can hit the Bluetooth button on the screen and it works, sometimes not.

Otherwise everything else is pretty good. Love google maps and OK Google. Have sideloaded AnyAutoAudio so I can stream SoundCloud and Carstream so I can stream YouTube.  Sound quality is good and fade controls work fine.

Just wish I could eliminate the bugs.

Suppose it's ok for just $400. Shame there isn't something just a bit better for under a grand. Anything that seems to work properly is a few thousand bucks.
