Still can't get over how UGLY these cars are.
As it's all subjective of course.

Would much rather a golf myself.

The Veloster is the worst.  I can?t believe they have released a second gen version.  The market of legally blind car buyers can?t be that big.

part of the problem with "hot hatches" is they still try to keep some practicality which causes the ugly look
these cars would look tons better if they had lower roofs and only 2 doors (basically a coupe-hatchback hybrid)

schattenblau

then you ended up with hot hatch coupes like the scirocco and megane rs.
sporty looking but less practical, with awful rear vision.

i don't mind the current 2 box look.

worse aspect of the 'dai is the rear which looks like three different cars.

80 Vert

The Hyundai could be 10x as good but I'd still never buy one.
Just does absolutely nothing for me.

Yeah the Japanese manufacturers seem to have lost their way in the fun, cheap and reliable FWD hot hatch department. There was a time where any decent hot hatch comparison would have at least one, if not more, Japanese manufacturers represented. I'm struggling to think of one such car available at a Toyota, Honda, Mazda showroom currently? Suzuki Swift Sport is probably closest I guess?

This is not surprising considering 'they know best' rather than engaging more western thinking designers.

what about these ?

unlike other japanese manufacturers, the production versions will be close to the concepts.

Both look a bit weird to me.
Only eastern manufacturer to have produced something faintly passable is KIA which are generally better looking than the Hyundai equivalent

I don't think it's an issue of thinking they know best, but rather a different aesthetic

I don't think they'll launch quite like that - the bean counters won't like shipping 20 inch rims on a entry level hatchback

I do like the look though, but the engine in that thing is up for debate
