Glad I found an NZ forum

Looking at buying one of these with 45k on the clock for $11,000 (recently imported from japan, certified etc). Is this the average price for one of these? The other option was similar price for a 2011 VW Golf 1.4 90kw TSI which I prefer the look of but heard they have issues and lack some grunt on highways... Going to go have a look at it tomorrow anyhow!

slowmo

I would check the service history, even though its done only 44k kms, it is 12 years old so parts would still need to be replaced regardless of distance travelled.

Current: 2004 MK4 R32 3-door NZ New DBP

Past: 2010 MK6 GTI / 2013 Nissan Leaf LOL / 2007 B7 RS4 / 2006 MK5 R32 / 2005 MK5 GTI / 1998 MK4 GTI / 1997 B5 A4 MTM

thx.

the black car looks good.

get a copy of the aa report.

the seller writes some enthusiastic prose

car doesn't out put 211hp in standard form though, 147kw or 197bhp.

Yes, slightly off-putting ;) Pretty sure they copy-pasta that info from the same place since a lot of the import auctions state that. I will seriously consider going a bit higher because a full service history + headunit + wheels + tune + what looks like a well-looked after car does offset future costs on one of the imports. If I do I will give you a text/call this week my dude.

Shows the reserve on the black GTI was $13500. Seems a bit steep. Granted it has low kms but that means diddly squat when you dont know the cars history.

I recently bought an 07 GTI with 80,000km on the clock. DSG service history was provided, car service history was provided, has MK7 mags, cambelt has been done, after market headunit etc etc. I paid $11500.00 for mine.

It pays to shop around and you will find the right car :)

I stayed away from the VW Golf 1.4 90kw TSI after reading some of the threads on here. So many terminal engines!

Good luck with your purchasing  ;D They are great little zippy cars!

With the 1.4 TSI, it's the twin charged version that has more engine problems. (103 - 124kw) AFAIK the 90kw motor is turbo only and is less prone to going BANG
