Wondering if anyone can recommend a trustworthy garage that can do this particular service?  Auckland area.  Cheers.

DSG Tran fluid other than Audi?  Just checked with Repco and they list the Penrite FS fluid for this box. Yay or Nay?

I haven't used Penrite but I use Motul for my R36 DSG with zero issues.

Mine came with some red fluid from Singapore (cant remember the brand) i'm sure it meets some spec, but I swapped it out for piece of mind (Pentosin \ Genuine Audi only). The cost to fix a DSG is just too high to quibble over $150-250 difference in fluid costs.

benckj

My take on aftermarket fluids is not about cost savings but using a better product. Why put the same fluid the manufacture created 15 years ago when the technology has moved by leaps and bounds. Maybe there wouldn?t be any DSG issues if good synthetic lubrication was used. Think about your motor oil and what you use now.

I just use dealer fluids

If you're gonna go aftermarket then it needs to be a better product, otherwise its all about the price - however as a consumer I find it difficult to find test results to prove that aftermarket stuff is any better
I mean look how difficult it is to just find test results of different engine oils, these companies try to hide everything

benckj

Well that?s why I am asking here for advice. For all I know there is a better alternative than what manufacture to offer. User recommendations have more weight than anything.

It is about price. Why pay double for something that is no better?
Dealer oils will just be purchased from a supplier meeting a certain spec. Well known and trusted brands like LiquiMoly and Motul manufacture to the same specs (or buy from a supplier who does).
You are right, there are pages of threads on the internet dedicated to arguing which is better than the other. Some have higher flash points, etc etc. I doubt most will ever be able to detect the difference, in performance or gearbox wear.
I was advised to use Motul by a specialist who works on many cars including lots of racecars and knows his stuff - far more experience than I will ever have - so I trusted him and saved enough cash to buy some diff oil as well.

The reason I asked about Penrite FS is that I run it in my Mitsi 4wd and it performs better than the ?special? fluid supplied through dealership. Yes it is less expensive but I use as in my opinion it?s better. By saving a little money I can change more often and do a trans flush to get as much out of TC as possible. Not sure what the DSG trans is like by on my Mitsi I'm lucky to get 1/2 the capacity out by a simple drain & flush.

BTW being less expensive is not just pocket change. Gunuine Mitsi fluid would cost over $200/10 litres where Penrite is under $100 for same. Looking at doing maintenance in Spring so have some time to research.

Just for reference this is the oil which I was looking at;

I?m having trouble matching the OZ product with NZ but when I stopped in Repco the Penrite FS was $67/4litres.  I bought same product on sale for $44 last summer. One benifit is that?s it?s off the self and no transport or other costs incurred.

After spending some time looking over car on weekend I ordered some parts through RockAuto.  Plugs, filters & brake pads.  Grabbed an auto trans filter so I can fly with aftermarket DSG fluid when I need to.   Will order the Haldex fluid & filter separately once I work out if its been changed already.

Doing a little more research on this and the VW boys over in OZ use Penrite for their DSG's. Seems they rate it very high and trans operate better than OEM Swag fluid. Will run with this when I do mine except I need to verify if the DCT FS is the same as fluid we get in NZ as its a different name. Waiting on filters, etc to arrive from States

Reply back from Penrite on correct fluid.

QuoteGood morning Jim,

The only product we have suitable for the DSG in your Audi TT is the DCT Fluid. This product is available for purchase in NZ.
It is a product that Supercheap stock in their DC, alternatively we do keep the product in our Christchurch warehouse so you could order the product from your local Repco store.
The part number you will need to give the store is DCTF004, this is the part number for the 4 litre.

I hope this helps.
Kind regards,
Rebecca Stephens

Checked at SC and price is $97/4 litres but I will wait until it comes on sale. Haven't seen it advertised at Repco but might be something they stock in the future.

Supercheap has 25% off all products today only. Snagged 2 x 4 litre oil packs of DCT FS for around $150 delivered. Don?t usually see this stuff on sale so worth the expense to get today. Just enter Save 25 at checkout.

Just for information I found out the DSG had a mod with replacement of riser pipe within gearbox. This is removed when changing oil but a new longer (blue) one installed. This will raise the gearbox level by 6mm or 1/2 litre or so in box. Apparently, the older models  (ie pre 2004) initially had an issue with low levels so this was raised to compensate. Not sure if this relates to Mechtronic fails.

Glad I found this info in the UK TT forum as I can get all my bits in order before changing oil. Link below to the thread with methods & pics included. Planning to pull my drain plug, check filler adaptor fitting and colour of riser pipe. Once I know what I have I'll change the oil and filter in box.

Ended up reading that whole thread (despite not knowing anyone who owns a TT or expecting to ever own one myself). They are a bunch of helpful individuals without sounding all high and mighty about it.

Have found most of the people on that forum very helpful. There are a couple tossers but not many. At least that site is very active so there are quick and accurate replies to any questions.
