I sent a query to Vredestein, who put me onto the New Zealand importer, who have got a local fitter to quote a price for me. This is importing via sea freight with 3-4 months delivery time.

The below quote includes fitting, balancing & gst.

Tyre Size: 215/50/15

QUOTE 1
Model: Continental - Vredestein Sprint
Quantity: 4
Price: $424 each

that seems like a reasonable price...

3-4 months though  :-\

you ordering a set ?

RobClubley

They said they'd air freight them at cost. At that price I'm thinking if I go back to the 15s I'll just fit 225s

It's not unreasonable, but quite a premium for a small difference in size.

I've tried 225/50's on 8" Ronals, and I've tried 205/55's on 7" Fuchs. I couldn't pick a difference in the handling, so buying 215's would possibly be throwing $$ away.

There are a couple of good 215/50/15?s on Trade Me at the moment.

For that price I think I will stick with the toyo tyres, i dont mind them looking a little wider.

 Hi Rob
I haven,t had the car loaded up but a while ago pushed it pretty hard going over the paekakariki hill road and it did not rub at all.

Old topic, but with a new relevence. Ur-quattro commonly-used tyres in 225 50 15 are all but NLA, unless putting a motorsport tyre on. Toyo and Hankook/Ventus have stopped production in that size. Currently it appears Kumho are the only manufacturers who still do a road tyre in that size, but they seem to be out of stock. Those Vredesteins may soon be the only choice.
