Cam chain
« on: October 17, 2018, 02:00:25 pm »
Hey fam,

Has some camshaft daily codes recently on my wifeís 08 1.4tsi and been told she needs a chain replacement.

I have had a couple of options put to me;
$1,800 - just replacing chain reset timing and oil
$3,800 - after market mixed with OEM parts includes camshaft adjuster and other parts)
$5,400 - OEM parts including above

My issue is the car has done circa 150(k)km and itís really likely only worth $5k

Anyone been here, and any thoughts.

Thanks heaps!

Reuben

DIY - pick up a manual and the parts and save a bunch?
BTW, I would expect it to be a false economy to just do the chain and not the adjuster and, maybe, the sprockets.
These are my thoughts and opinions - sometimes I'm wrong, but not often ;-)

If it's twin charge, I think I'll trade it in
or if you have a mechanic mind then like Gordo said and DIY... worst case you lost 4k
