I was looking to buy Liqui Moly fuel system cleaner or the like and I can't seem to find it available in New Zealand. It is available for cheap on Amazon / ebay and the like, I am just not sure if I should import it as it may be classified as dangerous goods and this may cause an issue at customs.

Any thoughts on this?

How hard did you try, this took a couple of clicks - http://www.speed.co.nz/page.php?pid=39
Any particular reason for this specific cleaner - there are many available and checking their reviews/tests on-line may suggest something as good, or better?
These are my thoughts and opinions - sometimes I'm wrong, but not often ;-)

fishpond have it https://www.fishpond.co.nz/Lifestyle/Liqui-Moly-Petrol-Injection-Cleaner-300ml/3763274634742 $57!!!

fuel system cleaner made the biggest difference in restoring power in a 5th gear test https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=efIJHf7h5kI they used redex

but there are several other fuel system cleaners available that are cheaper, do you know that the liqi moly one is especially good?

No particular reason except that this cleaner has good reviews. I don't buy from New Zealand "suppliers" who do not list prices because I know their prices will be high and I don't want to waste my time.

Fishpond is a joke, it's about $22 on Amazon for a pack of four, shipping may be a little extra.

Redex I don't think is available in NZ either. I guess I will google what they sell at Supercheap, they do have quite a range.

also check partsmaster and Repco

there were a few cheap brands at Super Cheap, at least this is a reputable brand https://www.repco.co.nz/en/brands/wynn-s/wynns-complete-fuel-system-cleaner-325ml/p/A1233343

I have worked in a performance parts shop 'Road and Track' for over ten years. The best fuel system cleaner in terms of customer feed back and personal experience is Redline - Fuel system cleaner. Give that a shot there is not much out there that is better, i would steer clear on winge products.

I just put a bottle of Redline in the tank and filled it up, early days, will report

bought it through trademe at $29.95, but picked it up from their shop on Great South Road https://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=1839579069

I'm also planning a throttle body clean in the next few days, so the "only change one thing at a time" rule will not apply

ProMa- PT5 !!! the only fuel system cleaner you should use.

Used this for about 10 years and kept a spreadsheet on fuel economy, practically paid for itself.

Cleans system and injectors, boosts octane, upper cylinder lubricant, better fuel economy. 500ml bottle treats many hundreds of litres. about 50ml per 60L

this probably sits better with "what did you do to your VAG today/this month"

car was running a bit roughly on a trip to the Wairarapa a few weeks back, I knew from various clonks that the dog bone mount was poorly and when we got home a noticed black smoke from the exhaust on idle, aha! running rich, as I was at Platinum looking for some bits I asked and was told it's probably the temp sensor or the air flow meter, so into Endeavour and got the dog bone, temp sensor and thermostat done (in the 8 years I've owned it it never showed 90 degrees).  Steve at Endeavour recommended changing the MAF sensor, so I figured I might as well clean the throttle body at the same time and put the fuel system cleaner through

so, step one, fuel system cleaner, result - smoother idle, (Steve did say the new dog bone bushes were stiffer and transmitted more vibration to the cabin)

step two today, cleaned the throttle body and put the new MAF sensor in, result, idle smoother again, pickup much better and more oomph, so all in all a win

CAUTION: the throttle body has hot water running through it so wait until the engine cools before playing with it, none of the sources I checked mentioned this
