So I might have scored a Eurodyne Stage 2 tuned ECU from an AEB for $400NZD including shipping from the US. I wanted to know if this would plug and play with my AJL engine?
As far as I am aware the AJL is the AEB but just pushing a bit more boost (around 9-10psi vs the AEB's 6-8psi) and an upgraded fuel pump (maybe, not sure?).
If the ECU numbers match up, which I'm gonna check today, will it work?

Good question! If you find out the answer please post it here.

Does the AJL engine use a narrowband or wideband ECU? I'm pretty sure they are narrowband so it should work. However I would suggest to consider converting to a wideband ECU if you're going to the trouble anyway. You can do that with, or without DBW as well. A later B5.5 Passat 1.8T would be a good donor for ECU, loom, throttle pedal, etc.

AJL is narrowband and cable throttle, well mine is.

You will need to vagcom the immo to work with the new ecu? Unless it's been de immoed.
The end is nigh, but the end of what is the question?

Thanks for the info everyone.
ECU if from the US so there is no immobilizer coded in.
Has already been vagcom'd to work on a manual quattro, apparently you can just change the settings for fwd/quattro and manual/auto/tip through vagcom.
Most likely gonna buy it and try it out, will keep you posted.
