Preventative Maintenance on Mk6 GTI?
« on: December 04, 2018, 02:22:02 pm »
Hello everyone,

I have just bought my wife a mk6 GTI (She absolutely loves it ;D ;D) and was wanting to do some preventative maintenance so that she can enjoy trouble free motoring. What would you guys recommend that I do? The car is a 2010 model and has done 72000 km's.

I have been quoted below prices from Qualitat !! Are these normal or are they ripping me off?

Full Service - $700incl gst
Dsg Service - $475incl gst
Divertor Valve - $300incl gst
PCV Valve - $285incl gst
Complete Timing Chain Replacement - $2800incl gst
Waterpump - $1200incl gst
Intake Manifold clean (if done with waterpump) - $500incl gst

Do I really need to do all of the above?

That chain job......eye watering.
I can do that for less than 1500 with genuine parts.
and yes on a 2010 the chain is a must replace.

why are you even thinking about changing the timing chain ?
it's supposed to last 200,000km
don't you trust vw ?

if it's not broken, leave it alone

Diverter valve - only replace if it's the old revisions and it's actually torn and causing boost leaks - it's about $100 for an aftermarket new revision, $200 seems like a lot for labour just for that

Timing chain - I got quoted $1700 for complete replacement including pulleys etc from an official VW dealer... so why a third party charges more, who knows... sound like you're been taken for a ride mate

Aren't the MK6 prone to failure?

like many big car fails (eg. porsche ims bearing, bmw vanos etc. ) the frequency of failure may have been blown out of proportion on the internets.

though recently saw a mk6 at a local garage getting a timing chain related ailment sorted.
