Tyre time again, ive been running Nexan Nfera SU1 for a while now and have been pretty happy with wet, dry, handling and stability. Wear not so great, but i do drive spirited and they are a summer performance tyre.

Managed to score a new set of 255/40/18 for $1200, but for an extra $80 could potentially go for the Falken Azensis 510 (replacement for the FK453) seems to rate better in reviews.

Part of me wants to go by reviews and try something different, but the Nexans ive come to know in terms of handling limits and feel.

Anyone here used the Fk510 and can speak to its abilities ?

Everyone seems to love the Michelin Pilot Sport 4 S. I think that's where Im going next time around.

I went into bridgestone yesterday for a quote on RE003s. At the moment you can pickup a full set fitted for $783 (225/45/R18). Definitely worth considering as they are a fair bit cheaper than the pilot sports yet are a similar "performance" oriented tyre.

with tyres you definitely get what you paid for.

with deals some sizes of ps4 are close to re003 in price but lightyears ahead in performance.

ps4s is even better, ps cup 2 best !

back on planet earth, toyo, yokohama, hankook also have good affordable tyres.

is the op's 255/40-18 size correct ?

not driven on falken 510 but 452/453 were mediocre at best.

Yep 255, I roll on 18x9 Turbines  8)

So it seems 255/40/18 are not available down my way at Bridgestone, the S700A is but that is like $2000 a set and currently little to no reviews.

So looking like the Nexan SU1 on Tuesday is my best bet, $1200 and I know how they perform.

Next year or so will be minimal open road driving and back to my round town \ shopping cart routine so Pilot PS4 or Super Sports would be wasted. Perhaps when the TTRS or R8 is in the garage :)

FYI, quick inspection last night showed a patch of cord on the front inner shoulder coming through (very small area <5mm), so the current tyres are well and truly done, safe to do 120 kms distance on ?

the phantom

I had a set of 17" PS's fitted at Tyre Tech just last week, the guys said that there's a limited set of sizes available for PS4 S so you might want to check on availability

I think it goes: PS4, impressive; PS4 S, more impressive; Cup (if you can get them) very impressive

PS4 at Hyper, an extra $380 over the cost of the Nexan Nefera SU1 Hmmmmmmmm (decides if its worth the extra $$$...Bourbon currency conversion in progress).

Reviews note High Rolling Resistance...no doubt because the wet and dry grip are almost identical but they do have a 87% rating and came #1 in many recent summer tyre tests.

On a side note, is it me or is the 18X9+52 turbines one of the best wheels for the Audi TT ? nice design 11 years on, high offset (+52) and 9" wide. I've looked high and low in the $1000-$2000 range of 18X8.5 and even 19X8.5 range and have yet to find something that really tickles my fancy to make the change.

About the only thing to come close was the DOTZ Revvo Bronze which would look great on a silver TT.

$380 is worth it !

and if you shop around (try chris at tyretech) there will probably be even less of a difference.

Thanks I might give him a call tomorrow, the Pilot Super Sports look like a good option too.

Specifically on the mk5/6 golf and Tiguan platform, RE003 don't even come close to the PS4.
It's like comparing a honda to VW. Both do the same/job/function. One just does it much better.

Ride quality is better, mileage so far has been amazing on my PS4's. low noise level comparative, especially on coarse road seal.
Wet weather handling is where it truly out performs. Bridgestones are great within first 2000-4000kms. But there after they fall truly flat in wet weather. Same as G-Grid, G-Grid II, RE001, RE002 and RE050's did in previous generation tyres.

If you do decide on PS4? As someone else mentioned, Call Chris @ Tyretech advise him I recommended you to him, his pricing on PS4's are pretty phenomenal.

Where do you coming up with the dribble? You seem to think you are the dude from Tyre Reviews?
I have RE003's on the R26 and RE050's on the Cooper S, they are both really good in the wet. Both cars get driven pretty hard on country roads.

the RE050A (don't know which specific version as they make many with the same name  :(  ) is my second favourite bridgestone.

the first remains the awesome RE01R.
