Weekend toy version 2.0

I was alerted to this ED30 popping up for sale by a mate that has always been a horrible influence when it comes to cars. Knowing full well I already had a mk5 GTI, the ED30 was waved under my nose. So after being sent the heads up it was for sale on Thursday morning, by Thursday evening I owned it....oops ::)

It's a NZ new, one owner FSH car.

Strangely the cambelt hasn't been done even though the car is at 160km. Supposedly 160 is when it should be done according to where it used to be serviced :-X
Booked in for cambelt on Friday then will start working on the cosmetics and a bit of tinkering on power figures.

Definitely the best version of the mk5.

Can't comment on market value as haven't seen one for sale in quite a while.

Nothing too major to report yet.
The cambelt, waterpump, thermostat and cam follower has been done along with the chain and tensioner.

Gave it a decent groom but will need to spend a day or two to get it absolutely right

Bit of a first for me....a CEL! In all my years of owning VAG i've never had one. Gave it a quick scan and luckily just a carbon canister related fault so a simple fix.

Finally got my plate onto it also  :)

I hope for your sake it is just the N80. I have replaced mine and done a full evap system delete on my car and it still comes back every 50km or so. Can't seem to find the source of the problem.

Has it been properly coded out? Have read a few for and against arguments for doing it. Decided to keep the full system.

Working through that now. The normal way of coding it out has not worked. It is being triggered by something other than the N80. It even triggers if I replace the N80 with the correct resistor.

I've seen the odd one for sale over the last year or so. They seem to be hovering between $12k to $17k max. They seem a bit of a steal atm. Definitely a future classic!

Quick update,

New set of tyres to go on this weekend as current ones are old, inner edge worn and cracked. Went with Bridgestone RE003 as have pretty decent reviews across the board and aren't too horrendously priced. Wheel alignment has already been done this week.

3" catless downpipe has been ordered so it'll be ready for stage 2 software shortly  >:D

Not going stage 2+?
I don't feel the extra money spent is worth the approx 25-35hp gain. The car has trouble keeping the front tyres gripping while stock....

a bargain  for not much more than a good regular mk5 gti

there were grey imports of 5dr pirelli edition etc. but were there any imports of 5dr edition 30s ?

or conversely, 3dr ed35 or ed40 ?

I was extremely impressed with the power and smoothness they got out of my normal mk5 gti with a downpipe and tune. They're based in Christchurch and are contactable via their facebook page.
