Preventive maintenance on B7 Rs4 avant 88kms
« on: April 13, 2019, 08:08:15 am »
Iíve had my 2007 Rs4 nz new avant for most of the year now. Itís done a mere 88000kms (which Iíve only done 3000kms myself).
What maintenance jobs/servicing should I be doing in the next 6 to 18 months I guess? Itís my second car so 4000 annual Kmsis about max I will do.
Was looking at a carbon clean and possibly a pcv valve at the same time. It also started a minor creek (on hot days) in the front end, sounds like a worn control arm bushing...

make sure DDC suspension is not leaking,
control arms as you mentioned
carbon clean as you mentioned
check flaps and flap motors
replace flap motor arms if needed
spark plugs and general maintenance stuff

I think that about sums up the basics really?

You mentioned the flaps and their motors. Also the flap arms. What are these?

Iím tempted to do a carbon clean but will it just clog up again quickly?

intake manifold has additional set of flaps that open and close at low RPM to assist with low end torque.
they have motors that controls the arms which control the flaps themselves.

the carbon clean needs to be kept on top of to be fair. If you baby these cars, they are likely to cause higher rate of carbon build up.

Donít forget the air box flap, mine ceased at one stage.

How about some nice leather conditioner too (scope creep)

Iíve heard removing the precats helps reduce oil consumption a bit. Is this an old wifeís tale?

Apparently it takes the air pressure of the engine a bit, or helps the pcv valve? I donít get how it would help with oil consumption, probably make it smoke more though on startup...
