Hi Everyone, New User to your forums and 1st Euro i have owned.

New Soon to be Owner of an Audi S4 B8 AVANT - my eyes are red and sore from overloading myself on internet information and hopefully the NZ Audi S4 owners can help me out. I have also hunted and read your posts as well.

I am in Hamilton myself but basically looking for Recommendations (Auckland/Tron) Tuners that can so a Stage 1 tune & Gearbox - i have had 1 quote back so far and overall was happy with the companies recommendations but i always do my research. All Tuners i have looked at have high ratings on FB and Google but again that's straight after some work has been done - anyone got a Stage 1 and had it long term from tuner x

the other thing - Just wondering - paying for the Radio/Nav conversations vs Radio / RSNAV system.. anyone done either of theses, i have read around issues with conversations especially with radio tuning etc.. Just really after someone that's had this in their car for a while now and can provide feedback

Finally, i do understand its subjective - e.g how the car is looked after and all of that.. just to give you some context into how anal and how well i look after cars.. i own a Rotary as well still on its original engine (no rebuild *touch wood*) so i am pretty careful and ensure everything gets done on my cars..

Hey and welcome!

Hopefully we can shed some light for you. Quick question what year is the S4? Early 2009/2010 had known points to keep an eye out for  - DSG, water pump, thermostat being the big ones - also some had oil leaks at the vacuum pump at the front of the engine. After 2012 facelift versions, 90% of the issues are dealt with.

Regarding navigation/radio conversion - three types of models on the S4 - 2G, 3G, or 3G+.
1) 2G - requires the nav drive, radio and firmware update (came on 2009-2010 cars)
2) 3G - requires radio and firmware update (if japanese, needs attention to visible languages)
3) 3G+ - fitted to facelift cars, much better HMI and functionality - needs the same conversion as 3G

Really depends on if you want full OEM or are happy with aftermarket - pricing for both is around the same point ($999 for 2G/3G/3G+), to do radio and nav, less if you only do navigation.

Regarding tuning - we are the team who are backed by Integrated Engineering (https://performancebyie.com/) - currently world record holders for the S4 platform on the 1/4 mile. They specialise only in VAG cars and all their tuning has gone through months and some cases years of testing. We offer flash at home tools for the platform, which means you flash (with loaned cables) - log and then send the logs back, we then revise the file to compensate for your specifc car and you then re-flash the revision. It's a custom OTS tune (happy to put you in contact with some of our clients who have Stage2 and Stage3 S4's - by this method).

To give you an example:
1) Stage 1 tune - $1724nzd (gst inc) - expected gains are on the link: https://www.alittletuningco.nz/products/alt-iesovj11
2) DSG tune - $1324nzd (gst inc) - https://www.alittletuningco.nz/products/alt-iesovw1

The system in place means after stage1, to go stage2 you only play the difference in the software cost ($115) and the hardware required (pulleys etc).

Thanks for the reply - mine is a 2010, and given all the reading I have done over the last few days, I would be attempting to do as much preventative maintenance as I can which might mean any ideas of tuning will be put aside in favour of ensuring reliability.. given the kms are only at 40,000kms it might not be so bad as the car has a good maintenance history thus far.

I will hit you up via email

Thanks

Hey brother, welcome.
Alittletuningco is on point.
Before you dive into mods and upgrades I'd recommend sorting your PCV, Coils, Thermostat, and water pump before you hit 90,000kms.  I'm doing all this and a bit more mid-Nov in Hammers.  Feel free to drop by the workshop if you want.
Definitely go for the IE tune (as per ALT Co comments).  You can either buy the cable and do the tune yourself or pay about the same to have them do it for you (recommended).
The IE platform is less of a headache than the APR route simply because the tune is half the price and locked down.  You can't do it yourself, you can't change for different fuels, any changes like TB and you gotta go back to your tuner.
