Yip, another tyre choice thread. Doing Southern track tour next year in a 2018 R, all 4 tyres are completely stuffed so need new rubber.
I settled on the Michelin ps4s (not PS4) today but reading reviews tonight they are no good on track.
Delaminate and chunks come off so I'm not so keen on these anymore.
Anyone have experience to share, good road tyre that handles some track duty?

who said they are no good on track ?
tyrereviews thought highly of them, almost as good as a cup 2 on track, better all-rounder on the road.

how about the michelin pilot sport cup 2 ?

i've got them on my megane rs265,
they are great on the track, very good on the road and even ok in the wet.
expensive though.

there's a new generation of european goodyear eagle supersports, supposed to be as good or better than the current gen michelins.

or how about a track biased semi-slick like a yoko, toyo, hankook, dunlop etc ?

There are quite a few factors to take into account, primarily weight and track conditions, that can have a big affect on the tyre life.
Some vehicles thrive on some tyres that others are horrible on, and vice versa - see what you can find on vehicles similar to what you are going to be using - UK/European clubs that do a lot of club track days would be a good source.

However, any tyre is a compromise and, as you seem to be very keen on the track abuse  8) , a semi-slick which is more track biased will probably be a better idea - good chance whatever you get they'll need replacing afterwards, anyway  >:D
If you can afford it, and have the room in the car, the best thing would be a second set of rims with proper track tyres on them - if you're staying with friends at each track'city, perhaps couriering them between 'might' be feasable. If you're going with friends, perhaps one of them could take the set, or split them up?
These are my thoughts and opinions - sometimes I'm wrong, but not often ;-)

There's a bunch of reviews on Tirerack saying Do Not use them on track. Delamination and chunks coming off the tyre doesn't sound that good to me.
Looked at possibly the cup 2, but expensive as you say.
No way I'm lugging a second set of wheels all around the South Island, it has to be a compromise tyre that does both.

Maybe look at the Dunlop direzza z2, or Bridgestone re71r. Road legal track tyres.

Settled on Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2, didn't realise this but there's Porsche spec ones and standard ones.
Opted for Porsche ones, just because  ;D

santa dropped in early ?

why N spec for the R ?

don't it cost more for the N on the sidewall ?

80 Vert

Just felt like it, only 20 per tyre more. No real reason really.
Deal was far to good to pass up.

Cup 2's defo work on track, couple of friends use them with M3's and they stand up to the abuse.
